1941 College Football All Stars Autographs w/ Jack Robinson
3 Attachment(s)
Yesterday, I was lucky enough to stumble on to an autograph album with virtually every member of the 1941 College All Star team including a somewhat unheralded halfback from UCLA, Jack Robinson. There are over 80 signatures in the album, and there were only 64 players on the team, so a few signed the album more than once. Unfortunately, Robinson only signed once. Other notables include: Tom Harmon (2 sigs), Paul Christman (2), Rudy Mucha, Norm Standlee, Angelo Bertelli, Forrest Evarsheski, etc. The All stars played the WC Chicago Bears at Soldier Field and lost 37-13 in front of 98,000 fans. I'm guessing this is one of the earlier Robinson signatures. A couple of questions: Was it common for him to sign "Jack" early in his life? Second, I plan to keep the album intact as I just couldn't bring myself to cut it up, but would it be worth more with some of the more valuable sigs as individual cuts?

1941 Jackie Robinson
He signed as Jack, not Jackie through his college years. And it is his signature. Nice find. Very rare in an album of All-Star college players. He also starred in the game, which adds value. The game program is available for about $400, which would supplement your pick-up.

If this was a random, run of the mill autograph book, I would say the individual autos would be worth more cut up. In this case, it represents an event so I wouldn't cut them up as I believe their value is worth more as a whole.

'41 All Star Football Autograph Album
Jerry and Mike, thanks for the input. Yes, Jerry, a program from that game would make a great companion piece. Will be on the lookout. Mike, glad to see you think the greater value is in the album as a whole, as that is how I intend to keep it.
