Help Identifying Babe Ruth...
1 Attachment(s)
I am very new to vintage card collecting outside of some select few T210 and T206 that I collect. My grandmother for Christmas handed down some of my grandfathers old collection to me though. I am having some trouble identifying a Babe Ruth card/photo that I have. At first I thought it was just an old photograph but then I found a 1936 Goudey Chuck Klein in the same envelope. I put it next to this card for reference. They are close to the same size so I thought maybe it was an odd shaped card that I could not find thru internet research. Can anyone help me identify this card/photo?

The Klein is a 1936 Goudey Wide Pen. Babe Ruth is not in that set. So they are not from the same set.
I do not know what the Ruth is from however. I'm sure someone else will be able to ID it though. Cheers, Patrick |

Turned the picture for you, is there anything on the back of the Ruth?

Thank you! No, it is a blank back too.

Looks like Topps colorized the same picture for their 2011 stickers #287. After a google image search I found it on a few different modern issued cards but nothing vintage.

Ruth image is from 1921 Keystone Views...

Same as this 2010 too.

I've never seen it before. It may help to get a better idea on what it is if you did a closeup photo of just the Ruth outside of the plastic case and sleeve.
What's the card-stock like? Very thin? thicker, similar to the Goudey? Maybe take a picture of the blank back too just to show what the card stock looks like. Is the front glossy? |

The front does have somewhat of a gloss on it and it is heavier than the Goudey. The back of it seems like it was either glued to something in the past or had a peel and stick backing originally? The black on the back of the card has a felt feel to it like it is a different layer of paper. I can not tell if that black layer is originally part of the card or from another piece that it was "glued" to.

Agreed. First thing I thought was commemorative/fantasy, possibly 1980s.
