Divorce poll

Wife THREW OUT my REA catalog. Told me that I had enough "garbage". I can only think of two possible courses of action from here. Please advise.

LincolnVT 04-16-2018 06:33 PM

Rea

Tell her that you like the catalog because it allows you to read up on / enjoy the cards without having to actually buy them.

Jay Wolt 04-16-2018 06:41 PM

Bob, ask her if she would rather you read porn :D

Corporal Lance Boil 04-16-2018 07:02 PM

Seriously

Throw out the next Victoria's Secret Catalog. Tell her you have in-person models who will show you how it looks.

On second thought...whoa this is a minefield I don't want to wade into.

Has the garbage man collected the trash yet?!

MVSNYC 04-16-2018 07:33 PM

Here’s another idea-

Ask REA if they can send you another catalog to your office!

Paul S 04-16-2018 07:42 PM

Don't hire the attorney I did.

Orioles1954 04-16-2018 07:50 PM

Want mine?

iowadoc77 04-16-2018 08:01 PM

Tell her you only get it for the articles:D

Peter_Spaeth 04-16-2018 08:17 PM

Be glad that she did.

hcv123 04-16-2018 08:18 PM

Throw out some of her favorite clothes!!

Tell her she has more than enough!!

Follow up by telling her your doing it to make room for all the things you are now going to have to buy from the auction because now you can't just look at the pictures!!!!

I also loved some of the earlier suggestions:

Tell her she's right - you have too much sports memorabilia, so you are not going to get any more, but will be starting a porn collection instead!

Loved the victorias secret idea....

pclpads 04-16-2018 08:51 PM

Tell her, it's either my REA catalogs or I start watching Russian whores pissing on each other. :D

slidekellyslide 04-16-2018 10:09 PM

I hope this post is in jest. I’m glad I’m not married to a woman who would throw away my property or call my collection “garbage”. If it’s not in jest then definitely divorce is the correct answer.

brianp-beme 04-16-2018 11:34 PM

One woman's garbage is another man's REA catalog.

You're going to have to be more specific.

53Browns 04-17-2018 06:34 AM

Tell her you were only holding it for a friend.

The arms must be huge on any woman that can actually pick up the REA catalog. ;)

Exhibitman 04-17-2018 08:03 AM

Kick her to the curb.

Cards will get you through times of no women better than women will get you through times of no cards.

I would advise you to quit buying garbage. If need be take a break from buying and enjoy the cards you have. Cards are easy to replace, finding someone that will tolerate your baggage long term isn't.:D

mark evans 04-17-2018 08:28 AM

If both you and your wife have incomes, I would suggest not combining your finances, or not combining all your finances. In that way, each of you can maintain a measure of autonomy as to your purchases; that is, having the ability to make a purchase without being vetoed. For those who think this might reduce intimacy/communication, I can assure you this system has worked well in my marriage for 35 years without any ill effect.

FourStrikes 04-17-2018 08:56 AM

Yes!

I just sold my one copy of any of the mags.

Apologize

And start collecting old beat up black bowling balls. Tell her they are antiques. Ask her to keep an eye out for the new catalog. If she starts laughing, she is a keeper. If she blows her top, well, it’s your life...

fbrockel 04-17-2018 12:52 PM

Tell her you were buying it for her

joshuanip 04-17-2018 02:38 PM

Not divorce related, but wifey related.... Do you guys get the same "eye roll" (aka you are crazy!) from your wife that I get whenever she sees me surfing this board..... I take that as a sign of loving tolerance.... hahahahaha

Too true. Remember cards are with you for the duration. Women, well....

samosa4u 04-19-2018 12:49 PM

Sounds to me as if she was pissed off over something else.

Most of my cards have been with me longer than any single woman.

My experience is that they sometimes don't need a reason to be pissed off. Me being in the room seems to accomplish that without any effort... :D

I know what the catalog looks like. May we see a picture of your wife? :)

CurtisFlood 04-19-2018 07:34 PM

Think of the potential savings she made for you. Sounds like a keeper to me, just forget about it and move along.

+1. In all seriousness, there is a substantial problem in this relationship--most women don't understand our passion for collecting, but then again, most tolerate it better than that.

Hope it works out well,

Larry

I get the eye roll when she sees a USPS or fedex notice on the door, followed by how much did that one cost?

Leon 04-27-2018 10:56 AM

After a little over 20 yrs my wife doesn't roll her eyes anymore but she does ask "how much?" Then the next comment which quickly follows is "I guess you aren't selling that one either?"

After 42 years my wife does not worry about what I spend on cards and I don't worry about what she spends on jewelry, shoes, cloths and household matters.

It helps that during all that time we both had the same long term priorities about both saving, investing and spending. And I have always made sure cards are just a hobby in terms of my overall estate.
