Babe Ruth Statue Questions

1 Attachment(s)
Hi-
I recently acquired the Babe Ruth statue pictured below at an antique show and I have a few questions regarding it. It has a 1983 copyright on it, but is that when it was made or was it made later? Who made it? There is some writing etched into the base but it is difficult to read. Did they make a lot of these? What material is it made from? I only know it is very heavy. Did the company make any other figures?

Thanks in advance,
Alan

The statue was made by a company named ESCO, and they produced hundreds of figures of show business celebrities and other notables beginning in the early 1970s. The material is very dense - which is great for their durability, but rough for shipping. Just search "ESCO" on ebay and you'll see many examples.

Thanks Rick! I also received a call from a friend and both of you confirmed that it is ESCO. To answer my own questions (and to satisfy anyone else's curiosity) ESCO made these of several famous figures including Gehrig, Chaplin, and Monroe. They are made from chalkware and seem to be fairly available (except for the Gehrig which appears to be rarer).

Thanks again,
Alan
