HOF Numbers Game: Offense VS. Defense

If Edgar Martinez gets in, shouldn't Omar Vizquel and Andruw Jones?

Comments?

Jones should get in regardless. He had a TZR of 251, 2nd all time behind only Brooks Robinson and ahead of Ozzie Smith. He also hit 434 HRs and was an above average hitter, OPS+ 111.

Omar Vizquel's defense is greatly overrated. He didn't make errors, but also didn't have great range like Ozzie Smith. He was also a poor hitter, OPS+ 82. His TZR was 129 which is 31st all time behind Gary Gaetti and Devon White. Are they HOFers too? What about Buddy Bell with a TZR of 174 and OPS+ 109?

I’m old school and stupid.

So I googled TZR and the only result was a Yamaha Moped, specifically a TZR250.

So I conclude that Yamaha is the third TZR surpassed only by Brooks Robinson and Andruw Jones.

Furthermore if Brooks Robinson had the best TZR, there ought to be a picture somewhere of him riding it.

I would vote no on all 3, Hall of the Very Good.

Vizquel and Edgar, yes. Andruw no. Defense aside, I'd rather see Albert Belle in before Andruw Jones.

All interesting points. I hadn’t thought about the Yamaha as a HOFer, but the case is a bit better than I thought. Strong TZR, as you said, but only a ten year career - 1986 to 95. Excellent acceleration and speed, but not that agile on the bases, especially when reversing direction. On balance I think I would vote no, but I respect opinions can differ.
