George Mule Muel Hass Haas Spelling Bee

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...LEHAAS_NEW.JPG

..Just added the Burke 4 x 6 , adorably labeled by an earlier owner in fountain pen as "Muel Hass" ( the back has only "Haas" and the Burke stamp , that's it)-- he joins the "American League Service Bureau" 5 x 7 which on the back has , in editors' pencil "George Haas O F " - next to hm up there is the 1933 Worch Cigar Premium on which he is known as "George Hass" and finally the 1936 Goudey Wide Pen Premium R314 Type 1 which has him as " 'Mule' Haas". As an OCD sufferer , I love this hobby.

The Davis Trifecta

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...AVISES_NEW.JPG

..finally got the third and last Davis of the 1937-39 Orcajo Photo Art Cincinnati Reds Team Set ( plus a Joe Dimaggio for some reason )--- about half the set came up on E-Bay auctions in November ; very unusual amount considering it's a somewhat scarce set , all put up by Jonsstats .

..The Ted Williams from this set is ten times more common than these three unloved and unsaved players. Teddy costs more though. Go figure. My next thread will be " Show us your Mace Browns!" Cue the crickets.....

Got the Peckinpaugh using the recent 10% off coupon from eBay!

I now have 149 of the 176!!!

Funny story - I bought the Smith from member of Net54. I’d never bought anything from him and asked for a couple of references...

He replies that I can call Joe Orlando and/ or Steve Sloan of PSA!!! Said PSA just did a story about him a couple months ago: https://www.psacard.com/articles/art...baseball-cards

As if that wasn’t enough he said check the Miami Heats website.... I’m the VP.

I immediately PayPal f/f the cash!!

Just glad he didn’t ask me for a reference - I’d given him my Mom!!!

Thanks, Andy for my favorite CJ!!! Good luck with your amazing set!

phenomenal Jackie :) been looking to add one myself. Weird dynamic against the '48 Leaf. The '47 is the true rookie, better photo, much more aesthetically pleasing overall in my opinion - but much less popular and I've never really pegged why

Thank you! I agree with you on all your points , but after seeing how the portraits have been out pricing the 48 leaf feels like the hobby is getting on board with bonds bread

A 49 Leaf Jackie Robinson rookie card recently sold for 336k. I would say the Leaf is out pricing all of Jackie's other cards.

Well in low grade I should say ..which still shows people are realizing this is his true rc...but it would be fun to see what a psa 9 bonds would go for these days ( not sure if there is a 9 btw)

phikappapsi 12-15-2018 09:12 AM

I don't think there's any question the Leaf card is far more valuable, and THE premiere Jackie issue, I've really just wondered about the "why"

It is his Rookie Card, at least one of two along with the 1949 Bowman. It is also a very visually appealing card with brilliant colors. I also think the confusion of when it was issued, which Beckett listing it as a 48-49 card, drew collectors to it over a 49 Bowman which some incorrectly believed was issued a year later. The Bond Bread card is a black and white card, which are not popular with collectors, a regional, not a rookie card, and was unknown to a large portion of the hobby when collectors started persuing rookie cards. The Leaf became very popular in the 80s and that popularity continues today.

Thank you and thanks to the J=K lovers who also commented. As I said, I had no idea that this card was on my wantlist, but it also led to me learning more about the set and just how rare it is, so I have a nice appreciation for being able to pick up that particular card.

Two additional arrivals today for my pre-war Cubs collection. It’s not intentional, but I’ve noticed all of the additions so far are pitchers. This is only the 2nd Cracker Jack I’ve ever owned, and I believe this may be my first ever T-205. Love both sets. [emoji4]
