Posted By: Dan Mathewson
...and, if you look at the scan (if the scan is accurate), the left edge of the card looks like it was sanded down with a stone grinder! How did that card get a 9 with that rough edge?

Posted By: jeff s
I've handled a bunch of 7s and 8s with the rough edge like this, and it seems like they have about the same effect on the grade as a very minor print defect.

if only PSA had subgrades:
corners: 9.5
edges: 3
surface: 9.5
trimmed: maybe

Posted By: Dan Mathewson
I have several 7's and 8's of this card, too, yet none of the cards I have display the jagged edge on either side. That is why it seemed so unusual to me.

Leon could be right (above) and it could be as simple as fashion/color matching of the card designer, but I'll reserve that option for now.

I actually really like the subgrades (for corners, edges, surface, centering). It gives one a better idea of where the flaws are and what caused a card to grade a particular way. I had one friend submit a card to PSA for grading, he thought it would be a 7 or 8, it came back 5, he had no idea why. He had to call, write e-mails, finally a letter to PSA got the desired response...he was told there was barely distinguishable glue residue in areas on the back of his card. Otherwise, he'd have never known, because most of the graders out there (like PSA) won't tell you why a card graded the way it did. They just grade it, send it back, and you can guess why...
