WOW the list of unopend stuff is amazing. I would love to open that box of 59 Fleer Ted Williams cards. If only I had that kind of disposable income.:)

1948 bowman box and packs

do those packs look weird?
it looks like the wrappers are surrounding a box?
the edges are sharp and distinct...how many cards are in the pack?
3 pieces of gum?
story doesnt say..it does say partial box...it looks full to me

I thought that, too, although my guess is that they've put some filler underneath the packs to make it look full for the purpose of a better publicity photo.

48 bowman

Strange...3 pieces of gum
How do they know that unless u open it?
Packs look perfectly flat on top?
Wrapper gum and cards all the same size?

JTysver 05-15-2017 12:28 PM

I'd buy them just for the gum.

Those are some of the weirdest packs I've ever seen. They look so thick.

stlcardsfan 05-15-2017 02:55 PM

The way I read it is there is only one card in each pack. One card and 3 sticks of gum. So they must be in a box. What the heck do I know, I have never seen a '48 Bowman pack.

GasHouseGang 05-15-2017 03:13 PM

We need one of our members that collected these when they were "new" to chime in and explain what we are seeing and what's inside. It seems like the gum must have been pretty thick to make a pack look like that. Were the gum slabs the size of the pack?

REGGIE206 05-15-2017 04:17 PM

That is crazy awesome!

If there were no known packs before, you'd think the person selling these would have been better off releasing these to market over time, rather than the entire box at once. Obviously there may be more factors at play here, but an interesting aspect to consider.

I wonder what a 'unique' unopened pack would have went for vs. the avg price per pack of the entire box once it is auctioned.

Those packs look weird to me, too. What I question is how roached out the box is but the packs look so nice. Seems to me the packs on each edge would suffer some of the same consequences of age and being knocked round, albeit to a lesser degree since it is the job of the box to protect the packs.

yeah, the box and the packs conditions aren't even remotely the same

Unopened 1948 Bowman baseball=My Holy Grail!

Ted Z. told me that the gum is the same size as the 48' cards, albeit
thicker. He opened them as a kid! Also the article states, packs have
5 cards and 3 sticks gum? Ted Z. will know, hopefully he will set us straight
on the facts. Amazing to see such an awesome find. I have dreamed/ wondered
for many years if unopened 48' baseball packs existed. Stoked to see them!
