Well, Mr. Lemke is certainly full of surprises: OJ Radbournes cost $1800, and Dummy Hoys cost $4,500. Boston Kellys cost more than Chicago Kellys, and Indianapolis Rusies cost less than Major league ones.<BR>For each player, he lists the number of poses in parentheses after the name, and then, in most cases, different prices on 2 or 3 poses. How accurate they are--Lord knows! I haven't seen any Radbournes going for $1800 lately. Ewing is $2,100 and Mack is $8000. Don't want to spoil any more surprises for you--I'm surprised nobody mentioned having received this hefty tome earlier...

You have to type it in in a certain way--but there're only 3 or 4 ways you CAN type it in.<BR><BR>Standard Catalogue of Baseball Cards, 2004, published by SCD. I also would like to point out that while we might not agree with every price in this guide, it is just that - a guide - and every year it is better. <BR><BR>Also, my fear after seeing some of the t205/t206 prices in the 2003 guide was that the market would react and prices would change accordingly, but that did NOT happen - for example, the t206 green portrait Cobb stayed at the same market value it was at prior to the astronomical price published in the guide. So I wouldn't be too concerned about that. Also, OJ cabinets, 1909-11 e-cards, etc., maintained their market value even though the guide had them significantly lower.

I mean, you HAVE to use numbers, which represent the alphabetical order of Old Judges as we know it, but since everyone knows we don't know how many players are actually represented on Old Judges, how much stock can you put in the numbers? Ands what ELSE should Lemke do when I new player shows up but put him in the alphabetical order?<BR><BR>I like the addition of "never played for (city and/or team name)" after so many players, whose cards indicate that they played for city and/or team.

The 2004 edition says the owner of the Kalamazoo Bats card would profit from this deal. <BR><BR>Also, what happened to the W590 cards? Those are the real-photo strip cards from 1925-31 that have been in the SCD book for the past several years. They're suddenly gone. Did someone at SCD hit the "delete" key by mistake, or are they really eliminating sets altogether to keep the size of the book manageable? I can't think of another set that's been entirely dropped.

The W590 Tris Speaker card was found with "Newark I.L.", and the GC Alexander card was found with "House of David" as the team name. Posted By: <b>runscott</b><p>I don't look up Old Judges by number anyway - the guide lists them aphabetically, so there's no problem. However, for those who do rely on numbers to identify un-numbered objects, it's probably a good idea to stick with an original list of numbers, as Julie has suggested, then add 'a','b','c' as new players are found, squeezing them between existing players. So if player 185 is Ragarm, 186 is Rugrat, and someone named 'Rogodzinski' is discovered, he would be 185-a. You could still use the '1','2','3',etc designations for various player poses, as Mr. Lemke has done in the current catalog.

I felt the format change with resulting addition and deletion of names warranted a re-numbering into strict alpha order. In the unlikely event any more entirely unknown players come to light, there are 3-4 unassigned numbers in the "system". Ease of utility for the average collector was the goal, and since I've seldom seen anybody buying/selling Old Judge by number, rather than name, it seems like nobody's applecart will be upset.
