Guys...........I bought this 'raw' off Ebay in early June and just received it back from PSA on 7/1. I'm working on a signed RC HOF set.

mr2686 07-03-2017 07:12 AM

Great addition Matt. How many signed RC cards do you have, and of the ones you have which is the "rarest"?

Kzoo 07-03-2017 08:45 AM

I started buying cards and getting them signed around 2001. As the old saying goes, 'I wish I would have bought more back then'. I lost interest for about 10 years and I ended up selling a few, which now I need again for the registry set PSA has started. I bought my '51 Mantle back then, as well, which I'm glad I kept. I've really not had any collecting direction or focus for quite some time, and this set actually gets me excited again. My rarest is probably this Campanella, as PSA has only authenticated 2, I believe. I had to convince my wife it was a good opportunity to buy it. Thanks..........Matt

Congrats Matt. I saw it on ebay and couldn't pull the plug. Glad it went to you and not a flipper

I don't give a damn
'Bout my reputation
I've never been afraid of any deviation
An' I don't really care
If ya think I'm strange
I ain't gonna change
An' I'm never gonna care
'Bout my bad reputation
Oh no, not me

Since I see some rock & roll autographs, these two might relate... Original 45's of Richie Valens' Donna & Buddy Holly's Peggy Sue signed by their namesakes.

btcarfagno 07-05-2017 10:17 AM

One of the toughest 1930's debut autographs. Collier passed away in 1944 and there are approximately 5 examples known to exist. I am not sure if any mention his nickname "Jelly" as this one does.

I needed a new project to mess with so I picked this up.

Already signed by Carrie Fisher (Leia), Dave Prowse (Vader), Peter Mayhew (Chewie), Anthony Daniels (C3PO), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Kenny Baker (R2D2), and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker)

I'd like to add Harrison Ford, George Lucas, James Earl Jones, Billy Dee Williams, Frank Oz and Ian Mcdiarmid. Some of those I'd like to get are VERY tough now but no big deal to me if I don't get them. Mainly the piece reminded me of a very enjoyable part of my childhood so I bought it.

Having completed this same project on my ESB poster, let me offer you some advice:

For Ford, Lucas and JEJ, go through K9 in New York (PM me for contact info if you need it)
BDW and McDiarmid-Get through a show
Frank Oz-Rumor is he no longer signs any more Star Wars related stuff. K9 got him for me a few years ago, but he personalizes everything.
Another issue to keep in mind is if you are not getting it through a show, it will be challenging to get them in the same color as now. IE-Harrison Ford will grab a marker and then run with it.

Good luck and may the force be with you!

Here's a 1931 signed Cubs ball that has Hack Wilson, Rogers Hornsby, and Kiki Cuyler among others. Not in the greatest condition but the Wilson is a pretty strong signature

Posted this on a similar thread on the memorabilia forum, but I guess it probably belongs on this one.

Very cool pick ups so far this month. Congrats to all.

Thought I'd sprinkle a little on the football side. This oddity arrived today. A circa 1954, Los Angeles Rams King Crusher bucket hat that once belonged to a man name Henry Schmidt, who was head athletic trainer at Santa Clara University for 50 years. He also worked with the L.A. Rams and San Francisco 49ers.

This is one of two hats I picked up from the Schmidt estate, both with dozens of signatures of former Ram and 49er greats and various other dignitaries.

No idea of the origin and no certificate of authenticity but there are so many diverse names on here...known and unknown...Hard to believe they would be fake. Even if they are, I'm still happy to own it.

Signatures include...Norm Van Brocklin, Elroy Hirsch, Tom Fears, Tank Younger, Les Richter, Hampton Pool, Big Daddy Lipscomb, Woodley Lewis, Duane Putnam, Charlie Toogood, Bob Boyd, Harry Thompson, Tom Dahms, Don Paul, Hall Haynes, Skeet Quinlan, Harland Svare, Dan Reeves, Tex Schramm, Eddie Kotal, Bill Battles, John Sauer, Dick Voris, Ralph Weaver, Ed Beatty (Rams 1954 first round draft pick)...All players or coaches with the Rams.

Also....Bob Kelley, Rams play by play man from their inception in 1937 through 1965

49ers include...John Henry Johnson, Joe Perry, Red Hickey, Buck Shaw, Y.A. Tittle, Jim Cason, Bill Stits, Phil Bengston (Vince Lombardi's successor in Green Bay).

Other football signatures include...Bert Bell, Doak Walker, Art Donovan, Gino Marchetti, Joe Schmidt, Lou Creekmur, Roger Zatkoff, Lavern Torgeson

Several other signatures, I've yet to identify.

The hat is also inscribed:

To Henry
Best Always
Rev. Bob Richards (Richards was a U.S. Olympian back in the 40's and 50's and one time presidential candidate)

As I said...No certified authenticity, but still cool to me.

Bob Richards was a triple Olympic medalist in the pole vault (1948 Bronze, 1952 and 1956 Gold) I believe he breeds Arabian horses in Texas now. That signature is legit.

Thank you. Glad to hear that one passes muster. Had a good feeling about that one.

Yes...He lives in Gordon, TX about 4.5 hours from me in Houston.

Couldn`t pass up a chance to acquire a Montreal Minor league Clemente auto while he was still in the Dodgers organization. Thanks to Tom C. for the help.

Isn't it a great comparison in signatures? Neil Leifer, a great photographer with a chicken scratch signature and Mantle with his very legible 'show' signature.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but how do you know Guerrero signed that? I am only familiar with his signature from the last 15 years, so it could be from his early seasons, but it looks like my 9 year old signed that.

Matched up well enough with his early signatures and came from a reputable source.Did I witness it signed? No, but I'm comfortable with it.

Understood, sorry not trying to imply it is fake, it just looks childish.

looks like an early Vlad. Usually first year of many Dominican players signatures look like that and once they are here a year or two they totally change
