Frank Robinson California Angels Batting Helmet
 

While I knew he was very ill, I was still very saddened to hear the news that Baseball Legend & Hall of Famer Frank Robinson had passed away last week. My game used collection only has a handful of non Orioles items, however I am grateful that one of those items is the last batting helmet that Frank wore as a member of the (then) California Angels in 1974. The helmet was originally sourced from an Angels clubhouse employee who took the helmet home as a souvenir the day that Frank was traded to the Indians (he then wrote the date in Ink on the interior label). RIP Frank & thank you for the memories.

Great piece from an epic player. I wish I had something game-used from his Reds era. Can't say I have ever seen anything on the auction block, other than a couple of bats.

Very interesting to see that the Angels were still using fiberglass helmets into the mid 1970s. When you find these fiberglass examples, they're almost always from the '60s. Awesome Helmet!

A few years ago I bought a lot of Visiting Player locker nameplates from an auction house from the old County Stadium in Milwaukee.......Here is the Frank Robinson one from when he was the manager in Cleveland (which I got signed a few years back)..
