Oh to be (Cy) Young again from 6K to 3K

Disclaimer, this is of particular interest to me as I am trying to sell a similar card.

This SGC 6 with sticker Cy Young Glove Shows is up for auction in PWCC.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-11-T20...gAAOSwA9tdarXO

The same card, however, just "sold" in PWCC on July 14 for what seemed to me to be an astonishing price over 6K.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-11-T20...p2047675.l2557

The prior "sale" naturally shows in VCP.

One wonders.

I can make you any kind of sticker you want to put on yours.

Can't help with the lemmings to buy it though.;)

Click on the winning bidder of the PWCC auction. I have never seen that kind of situation on ebay in over 20 yrs ). How can you not bid and win? LOL

Don't think you need to disclaim since by pointing this out you are saying the VCP value is inflated which can only hurt your sale.

Eh, nobody obviously believed the "sale" anyhow given that mine is a higher grade and isn't moving at a much much lower price. Of course mine doesn't have a stupid effing sticker, maybe that's the problem.

swarmee 09-08-2019 08:27 AM

Why is the winning bid a $1,400 increment above the 2nd bid?

Peter_Spaeth 09-08-2019 08:39 AM

It isn't but the list for some reason is out of sequence.

Aquarian Sports Cards 09-08-2019 08:46 AM

Yeah, the bids being out of order and the bidder's history showing no bids and one retraction both weirded me out.

Peter_Spaeth 09-08-2019 08:51 AM

No bids in the last 30 days. Those totals update automatically I think.

Leon,

You may be familiar with the Brent Crude Oil Spot Price.

You may also be familiar with the tight relationship of PWCC and eBay.

One might ask where does Brent Crude come from?

It comes from the Brent/Bay price pump, where Brent values the item with a spot price above market. Then VCP records the fictitious “no bidder” sale.

Then PWCC and eBay go fishing for a numbskull bottom sucker by relisting the card in hopes that their spot price is realized.

Of course all of this is obviously fictitious and not intended to impugn organizations of impeccable integrity such as eBay and PWCC, or is it???

Peter_Spaeth 09-08-2019 09:10 AM

I'm not sure I see a meaningful practical alternative for VCP to reporting transactions at face value, but you really have to wonder especially after the Blowout thread the other month how many "sales" they have reported over the years that never closed.

ValKehl 09-08-2019 10:34 AM

So Frank, are you suggesting that Brent is both crude and lacks integrity? :D

But how do you have a retraction without a bid? Unless retractions are reported for a longer period than bids. How long ago did this auction end? I am sure these updated automatically so how long should it take?

It's very clear that bids are reported on a 30 day basis and retractions are reported on both a 30 day and 6 month basis. You just need to read it instead of speculating. :)

30-Day Summary
Total bids: 0
Items bid on: 0
Bid activity (%) with this seller: 0% Help
Bid retractions: 0
Bid retractions (6 months): 1

Aquarian Sports Cards 09-08-2019 01:35 PM

I was being lazy and didn't go back to look again. However you still have to speculate how long it takes them to post new information.

EDIT: Oh for crying out loud. I thought this had just closed, not something that is LONGER than 30 days ago.

Vault Cover for Bogus Bidding

Market Manipulation ??? I don’t know. Go higher on it...let’s hope some sucker comes in hot last min on a snipe...if not Vault and Repeat the Pump Yuck Possible idk at this point what difference does it make ??? I don’t know seems fishy......
Distorts VCP again I guess it’s at this point what difference does it make.
We all have the investigative and informative info here to know ahead of time.
My take on it is none of this is a issue because it continues......

Leon 09-10-2019 03:27 PM

Ask Jeff what the problem is? :)

It just closed for 3100, about HALF of what it allegedly sold for a few weeks ago. Sometimes you just have to say, WTF?

WOW. This E98 Cobb, which exact card “sold” just a month ago, just closed for $20,900, which, according to VCP, is BY FAR the lowest this card in this grade has sold for since at least 2013 (see below).

frankbmd 09-10-2019 08:59 PM

Why would those who have no problems with the integrity of the PSA Registry and grading have any reason to question the integrity and pricing on VCP?

You pay for both services, don’t you? Isn’t Brent in competition with VCP with his Marketplace sales data, which no doubt includes unconsummated sales as well.

Regardless of your station in the hobby, be wary of all sellers, TPGs, pricing data and auction houses and evaluate each with a jaundiced eye.;)

Just PM me when you find one that’s squeaky clean. I’ll leave a light on for you. I’m still looking.

Johnny630 09-11-2019 03:02 AM

Wonder if the consigner will get paid for the card this time?

Or back in the vault.

It’s always Groundhog Day in Oregon.

If Young comes out for sale without payment, he returns to the vault for six more weeks of winter.
