Craigslist finds?

Anyone ever find anything on Craigslist? I know most of the stuff you see is 80's modern, but I was curious if anyone has found anything interesting?

This is about as close as I get:

Some much Craigslist fraud on cards has been outed on this board in the last few years its ridiculous. I wouldn't go there.

Most is junk but you can find some gems if you are persistent. Last year I bought a 73 Topps BB un-cut 5th series sheet that had two Schmidt rookies showing.

I bought a group of 11 T206 cards from a lady for $100. They fell out of the ceiling of a 19th century home she was renovating. Pretty bad condition but there was a McGraw and Marquard in there.

Years gone by

Back in the early days of Craigslist, I bought a 1952 Eddie Stanky Cardinals jersey. Name sewn in the tail...a beauty.

2 years ago I had a want ad posted on CL and got some responses. Most replies were bogus or offered junk, but one guy did have a nice, small raw collection of 50s - 90s cards that he sold me for $225, which included a 69 Reggie Jackson RC, 59 Gibson RC, 59 Mantle AS, Clemente, Kaline, Wynn and Killebrew, 54 Ted Williams, 89 UD Griffey, 76 Eckersley and Ryan (and a bunch of NM commons), 82 Fleer Ripken, and a bunch more - all together worth maybe $500 - $600). I got several graded this year. The Reggie came back a 4.5 (looks EX/MT), the Mantle got a 5, the Clemente and Killebrew both got 4s, and the Gibson got a 1.5. I still need to get the Griffey graded. Looks Mint.

So, if you're willing to put the time in and put up with meeting a few people who claim to have vintage cards (won't send pics) and bring 1991 Conlons of HOFers when you meet, there's a chance to find good stuff ;)

I purchased a t206 Elberfeld Washington for $5 from a dealer who contacted me from my craigslist ad. There was a poll about whether people thought it was real, which the majority thought it wasn't, and which I started questioning myself until I sent it to an expert who confirmed it was.

Picked up a 1964 Beatles ticket stub from 1964 concert in Kc. Also couple die cut
Movie tickets from hard days night movie in Kc. Got for $15 from an apt manager who found in a dresser .

A few years ago a lot of N173 cabinets showed up on CL, from Arizona but they listed them in NY too. I think they eventually got to an auction house via whatever dealer bought them. Craigslist seller knew they were special but (in my memory) was using CL as a reasonably easy way to sell. Sorry my memory is vague -- they were out of my league but it was a thrill to see good stuff show up... Maybe someone here saw them too or bought them.

There was a beautiful Lou Gehrig signed photo for sale in my area a few years back. Unfortunately it was signed in pencil and the clarity against the background was less than great, but it was authentic nonetheless. He wanted a lot and we weren't able to make it work, but that is about the best piece I've seen on craigslist. Just bought a big cooler for my boat though.

Imagine how much sports memorabilia you can store on your boat now!

Paid $14,600 for about $4000 wholesale of stuff. Spent 50k points to fly to Phoenix to buy it. Once I got there, the condition wasn't nearly as good as described but I was already there and felt like I needed to honor my word.

Some of the pre-war ended up being reprints and the high end auto stuff was mostly forged, but other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Needless to say, my days of searching Craigslist for deals are over.

Craigslist purchases

My best Craigslist buys include an extremely rare KC Chiefs nodder, a tough KC Athletics nodder, several vintage pennants including 1955 Brooklyn and two SB IV pennants, and a group of about 40 1952 Topps high numbers. The cards were mostly in fair to vg condition, but the price was right at about $3/card. My latest find was a program from the Oakland Raiders first regular season game in 1960. I certainly don't search Craigslist all of the time, just every now and then. Most stuff is uninteresting and/or overpriced, but every once in awhile....

bbcard1 08-10-2017 06:54 PM

I search most every day but seldom find anything. I got a sheet of 1962s (9 cards) for $5 which included a couple cards I needed...I think a Spahn or something.

I did get a nice collect for $1000 out of a nieghboring community which included most of a 1967 set in pretty nice conidion (Seaver, Brooks, Carew included ... Seaver came back a PSA 5 and a set of 1971s (mid grade) that I came out well on, though not great on.

I actually had a nice find 4 years ago and posted about it on the forum.

I bought a Troy-bilt 'tiller on Craigslist. Nice early model that was garage kept.

I've sold some junk-era wax on there - pretty cheap though.

Found this on Craigslist yesterday and hope to go pick it up today. It is a 14ft with mesh dovetail. Great for hauling college furniture around the state. :) (or a Kubota tractor or Scag ZTR on it's off time )

As for cards, I don't look there for them...

Nice looking trailer, Leon. I purchased this one years ago for what I thought was a great price. I use to use it for hauling my atv's and other stuff back and forth to our trailer, but, due to my SIL, I haven't seen it in about 3 yrs. (I sold the atv's and have a truck anyways)

I've had a lot of success on CL with my other main hobby - vintage musical instruments. In the last couple years I have flipped a 1975 Tele (bought $900, sold $1400), a 1980 Gibson 335S (bought $1000 sold $1200), a 2003 Rickenbacker 370/12 (bought $1000, sold $2100), a Fender custom shop '60 reissue (bought $1300, sold $1600), and a few others. I also snagged a 1966 Fender Princeton and a 1963 Ampeg Superreverb for about half their value, but held onto those.

As for cards, all that I've seen for sale around here are binders full of junk wax for $250.

Ended up going with a different trailer, one that has 2 gates on it and the color matches the car as a bonus. (pictured with daughter's college furniture)..

And from my understanding the Texas DFW area Craigslist can have a few good sports cards and memorabilia listings. I don't personally look there though....too much to wade through for me.

There was a guy selling a graded Mendelsohn Cobb and I missed it by a couple hours. It would've been a great deal. There was a guy who was selling an ungraded Doyle NY Nat'l on there last year, I asked him if he had a Wagner or Plank too. He didn't respond.

That's a unique trailer, Leon. I could see that coming in very handy!:)

We have Kijiji up here in Canada, and although I have looked occasionally, I normally never see much and when I do, it is usually way overpriced.
I am sure some people have found somethings, but I'm batting 0-for so far.

Had a nice score just tonight. This was my first response to a craigslist ad. I purchased a stamp collection for $200.00. There were 7 large tuperware tubs of all sorts of stuff. There is over $1,200.00 of face value of mint US stamps ready to be used for postage. That was in most of the bins. I can't wait to go through the rest. I will update in this thread when I get a total of face value and what else was in there.

Wasn't exactly Craigslist, but something similar. Scored a 1968 Topps Baseball - Near Complete Set - 540 cards - All PSA Graded either 8's, 9's or 10's. Didn't have the Ryan, Mantle, Aaron, etc., but still good stars in high-grade quality.
