Posted By: CN
Mazerowski. I believe Mickey Mantle always said that losing that game was his worst loss not 1955,57 or 64 his other game 7 losses because he felt that the Yanks were far superior that year and outscored them big in the 7 games but still lost.

Posted By: Peter Spaeth
There is no way it is Mazeroski (what's with adding the W to his name?) because Dusty Rhodes hit one in the Willie Mays "catch" game in 1954, but I still think Rich is right that Henrich did it before that.

The broadcasting team is the Ol' Redhead, Red Barber, & Mel Allen: get yourself a copy and give yourself a treat. The entire series is available and the sound quality is wonderful.

Posted By: Gilbert Maines
Ted is going to tell you that the term "walk off homerun" wasn't in use until the late 20th century, so the answer can not be a vintage game.

Posted By: Pennsylvania Ted
Some good answers to this Trivia ?

GILBERT

Good to hear from you.....your right....the term "walk-off" homer I think started with Kirk Gibson's HR
in the 1988 Dodgers vs A's World Series (WS).

It's the accepted "media buzzword" since that event, so I used it here to minimize the verbiage in my
Trivia question.
If I counted correctly, 8 of you have the correct answer. The one who most correctly answered this
quiz is Steve Murray.

But, as an avid Yankees fan.....I must disqualify him from winning the prize.....for 1st answering this
quiz with Mazeroski. Normally, Steve you'd get a 2nd chance....but, that was a "BIG NO-NO".....ha !

An interesting side note to Tommy Henrich's HR in the 9th inning of the 1st game of the 1949 WS was
the answer Casey Stengel gave the media. Until this event, Casey (in the 1923 WS, Giants vs Yankees)
had hit the previous game winning HR in WS play....."What do you think of your boy Henrich stealing
your 26-yr old record from you ?" Casey remarked...."I was nervous, I hit my HR in the 7th inning, little
Old Reliable (Tommy) did it in grand fashion in the 9th".

FOLLOW-UP TRIVIA...............

What is so significant with Casey Stengel's HR in the 1923 World Series ?

Thanks for your interest in this,

TED Z

I first picked the only one that won a world series with a walk off homer. As we all know there are 13 walk off home runs winning a world series "game".

Good fun Ted. Thanks
