My experience with Lelands Auction House

I recently sold my Hall of Fame check collection and when submitting some of the rarer checks to PSA one came back as not authentic. Hard to believe but true. I looked back at my records and I bought the check from a Lelands auction back in 5/2006. Back then PSA did not encapsulate the checks but rather issued a separate cert which was included in the lot.
I stopped at Lelands booth this year at the 2018 National in Cleveland and met with Mike Heffner for 5 minutes and explained the matter. He said he would look into it and contact PSA. Other than being a bidder in their auctions I had no relationship with anyone at Lelands. Never once did they mention their timetable for returning an item.
Yesterday I received an email from them saying they were reimbursing me in full. You hear many stories about auction houses that do not do the right thing. I just want to share a story about one who did.

Great story. We hear the bad ones it's nice to hear the good ones too. And Heffner is one of the nicest guys in the hobby, nothing like Josh E. ...LOL..... (j/k Josh).

Once they sent a smaller dollar figure item (I won in auction) and when I got it it had a tear in it that wasn't there, or evident, at first. No questions asked, just send it back for a full refund is what they said.

12 years later. That is very cool. I'm guessing the response would be very different with some other AHs. "Please see Terms and Conditions paragraph 17(d)(iii). . . ."

Awesome!

I wonder what REA's return policy is...I bought a Babe Ruth cut sig and a Lou Gehrig signed picture from a book back in the late mid 1990's....Recently I pulled them out of the attic and looked at the COA and it was issued by some guy mentioned in Operation Bullpen I think, I will have to go get them and look up the name again but every search result was a negative link about this person's ability to certify autos

Trust me it is. Hunt Auctions hung me out to dry on an autographed item I won in an auction from them in 2005 with a Hunt LOA good for the life of the item on an item that was turned down by Jim Stinson and PSA in 2016. I had been a buyer/bidder from them for 15 years and spent over $30,000. 00 with them also . I only paid around $1600.00 for the item . When I contacted them and spoke to David they were generous enough to offer me a consignment fee of 0% on any single item I would consign to them ....WOW what a deal !!!
That was fabulous of Leland's to do for you !

Josh is a true gentleman in every sense. One of my favorite people in the hobby.

Wow that is very nice to hear. I have bought and consigned with Lelands, they always were nice to me in terms of customer service and answering questions(regardless of the value of the items) so that is not surprising.

Opened this thread expecting to hear a rant about packaging peanuts :)

I have bought some of my favorite items over the last decade from Lelands and they do a great job.

Josh and Heff are two of the Best in the hobby--Josh is tough on the outside, but he is really one of the nice guys in the business.--They both will always share their knowledge.
