Another fake H&S LOA

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Negro-League...53.m1438.l2649

Thought it looked off, so I checked out the auction. This did NOT come from the auction listed in the LOA. I contacted the seller just now, but I wanted to post here in case anyone thought about bidding with the auction closing tomorrow.

I'll call Huggins and Scott, but they seemed very uninterested last time their LOA was faked.

Wow, everything about this is such a cliché for bad autographs. A badly cobbled together LOA, a poor excuse for an autograph, and putting it on a blank penny postcard. On the other hand, it is personalized to me so how can I not bid. LOL

Not a lot is stopping someone from copying a valid auction LOA and just swapping items. I've seen that done as well a few times. Thankfully places like H&S keep their auction lots up in their archive.

They could have at least tried to make it look legitimate. This looks horrible.

Got a reply back from the seller. This was purchased at an estate sale, and since the dollar value isn't very high, he's going to let it ride. He feels the buyer should research and be comfortable with the purchase.

Maybe the auto was purchased at an estate sale, but I bet the phony letter was added by the eBay seller. The fact that he is letting it ride speaks to that being the case. Another auction for uninformed buyers.

I see he took it down. Good!!

An eBay seller in Wisconsin was using the same types of fake H&S LOA's to sell fake Negro Leagues autographs and vintage Green Bay Packers' autographs. I kept reporting them and eventually they were banned.

A question for the lawyers. I've wondered if people who forge these LOAs of other people/entities could be charged with identity theft.

Shame that an auction house like H&S would not do anything to stop a seller from doing this.
You would think they would know that crap like this is bad for business.

It's fraud and counterfeiting at a minimum.

Yep. And eBay will remove them if the entity files a complaint through the Vero program. It falls under unauthorized use/copyright infringement.
