Woodstock (Dead Performers)

Well, it's another Woodstock anniversary. List all the ones who performed in 1969 and are no longer in the Woodstock Nation down here.

I'll start with a few easy ones to get us started:

Janis Jopolin
Jimi Hendrix
Jerry Garcia
Keith Moon

Take it away guys.....

Is Country Joe still alive?

CW 08-14-2015 11:52 AM

The guy who said, "Don't take any of the brown acid."

Wavy Gravy is not dead.

Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding are also gone.

Alvin Lee.He was a hell of a guitarist!

vthobby 08-15-2015 07:20 AM

More

Swami Satchidananda (first speaker at Woodstock)

Albert Moore

Bert Sommer (sang "Jennifer" at Woodstock)

Spencer Dryden (drummer for Jefferson Airplane)

and I'm sure many others.......

I like the quote above "Wavy Gravy is not dead".....well....yes.......no one said he was and this list is those who have passed!

If you want a truly incredibly tough autograph, try to write to Wavy, I've written to him maybe 5 times and his address is pretty much a secret and/or changes on a whim as he is very secretive and happy in CA. I have gotten 2 index cards signed by him out of 5 attempts which is pretty cool. Unfortunately I do not still have the last address I used.

Peace, Mike

Yes, good call. I believe several other members of Canned Heat are gone too.

vthobby 08-15-2015 09:50 AM

Canned Heat

There is only one other member from Canned Heat that died (who was also at Woodstock) and that is Al "Blind Owl" Wilson.

Mike

PS Just thought of another one (not Canned Heat) but it is Tom Fogerty (older brother of John) and played for CCR at Woodstock.

rsn1661 08-15-2015 08:48 PM

Johnny Winter and his drummer uncle John Turner are both gone. Johnny played 3 of his 9 song set with his younger brother Edgar. I believe his set is available on dvd.

vthobby 08-15-2015 11:19 PM

Johnny Winter....

I got him in person in Vermont shortly before he died. He played Higher Ground in South Burlington and invited each person who waited after the show into his little camper or trailer and he sat and signed for each of us. He signed 2 baseballs for me and I think they are unique as his manager said he does not think he has ever signed baseballs but he said he did sign a bowling ball once!?!? As Johnny was signing the balls (his eyesight was very bad) and he was shaky, he actually swore a bit and said the f-word a few times to the tune of "I hate signing things that are round!!!" I was laughing inside and half afraid he was going to throw the balls at me! He smiled after and wished me a good night. He also signed my ticket to the show and slid a pre-signed little photo card of himself to me! Incredibly gracious man. Oh and by the way, there were only about 10 folks lined up after the show which I still do not understand. Vermont can be a weird place sometimes! Good for me and autographs though!

Peace, Mike

The Who lost bassist John Entwistle in 2002 - some say the greatest bass player of all time. Well, I say so anyway.

Ah, so HE was the "don't take the brown acid" guy! My bad. I was actually just being a goofball with my reply, but I stand corrected. :o

A quick scroll did not turn up Rick Danko on this list. Heart failure after a long addictive life, was the cause back in '99, I believe.
