Tuesday nite Trivia

Can you name the Major League batter with 7000(or more) AB's who holds the record for the least number of K's in his career ?

I think that it's Joe Sewell.

MVSNYC 05-26-2015 03:35 PM

Joe D?

rdixon1208 05-26-2015 03:37 PM

Joe Sewell

This is one that I know. I don't remember how many it was, but Joe Sewell had insanely low number of k's. He had <10 k's in most of his seasons. As an Astros fan, it's not uncommon to see a guy strike out 10 times in four games.

MVSNYC 05-26-2015 03:42 PM

Wow. And I was impressed with Joe D's mark...Joe S blows him away. Insane.

mybuddyinc 05-26-2015 03:46 PM

Sewell - career - 7132 AB / 114 SO. That's a SO every 62.56 AB !!!!!!! Unreal

1925 - 608 AB / 4 SO ---> One per 152 AB (if I'm not mistaken 2 were in one game).

BUT -- 1927 -- 3 SB / 16 CS :(

Peter_Spaeth 05-26-2015 03:58 PM

Joe DiMaggio 1941. 30HR 13K. I think Adam Dunn may have struck out more in a weekend.

bigfanNY 05-26-2015 04:01 PM

Mvp

Last years AL MVP had 70 more strikeouts last season than the answer had in his entire fourteen year CAREER. There are ZERO active players with more than 5,000 at bats and an average of less than 10 strikeouts per 100 ab's. Three hundred and thirty two players have finished their careers with a less than 10 ratio.
"T" Thanks for an entertaining trivia question

tedzan 05-26-2015 04:11 PM

Hey guys......

This was too easy for you......Joe Sewell is correct.

So, let's kick it up a notch.

Although Joe's absolute K's are the lowest....his AB / K ratio is 2nd to who ?

Again 7000 AB's (or more).

All hit, no run !!

Joshchisox08 05-26-2015 04:20 PM

Placid Polanco? Not sure (without cheating) if he actually had 7000 at bats or not.

Bpm0014 05-26-2015 04:33 PM

Wild guess: Yogi Berra.

Peter_Spaeth 05-26-2015 04:42 PM

Adam Dunn.

I would second Willie Keeler.

tedzan 05-26-2015 05:53 PM

Keeler is the correct answer with an AB /K ratio = 63.1

Sewell's AB / K = 62.5

One more once......

There is another bit of interesting trivia that may be unique to Joe Sewell....what am I alluding to ?

Ha Ha!!! Couldn't let that comment go unnoticed. :D

I'm sure he has.

Sean 05-26-2015 06:01 PM

He replaced the only fatality in MLB history, Ray Chapman. :p

edjs 05-26-2015 06:03 PM

He played his whole career with only one bat.

tedzan 05-26-2015 06:27 PM

Gee, you guys are good

Sean and Ed

Those were the answers I was looking for.

Joshchisox08 05-26-2015 07:41 PM

I'm pretty sure it's Placido Polanco. Totally guessed but he has 7887 PA and only 538 K's good for about a 68%

Josh, Polanco's AB / K ratio would be ~14.7.

Why are we using AB's to determine this though ??? Shouldn't it be PA ??? To me that makes more sense

Polanco only struck out 538 times
Total plate appearances 7,887

538/7,887 = .06821 Or striking out every 68.2 appearances at the plate.

You have the ratio inverted and you're putting the decimal in the wrong place.

Correct .. 7887/538= one strikeout every 14.7 plate appearance

538 / 7887 = .0682 which means he strikes out 6.8% of his plate appearances.

Joshchisox08 05-27-2015 08:19 AM

Ahhhhhhhhhh my mistake.

Ted,
Maybe his BB/K Ratio !?!?

I Can Only Imagine that it is Pretty Good as Well...

tedzan 05-27-2015 03:30 PM

Trivia

Denny

You imagined correctly.... BB/K Ratio = 842/114 = 7.4

howard38 05-27-2015 05:35 PM

How about the most plate appearances in one season without striking out?
