User Titles- yes or no?

So here is the question. Should we have user titles that are based on your # of posts on the board, which would change as you post more?

batsballsbases 05-01-2009 01:29 PM

yes no

Leon,
I say no. Junior memember,senior member,dead memember,foolish member.
To me its just another way to start a new problem. Its fine the way it is.:D:D:):) Dont you just love these things!!!

Leon 05-01-2009 01:37 PM

and you get your vote!!! I love doing polls...

Ladder7 05-01-2009 02:40 PM

Nah, meaningless feature.

Leon 05-01-2009 02:46 PM

no worries

We will let the poll go a few days. As I said before if there was a large percentage that didn't want to do it then we won't. It wasn't even going to have to be 50% in order to not do it.....SO it looks like the board is speaking.....I thought it would be fun but I have been wrong before....No big deal....after the poll I will go look at the options and, if it continues the way it is, will just do away with that feature. I am sure the other moderators (and I) will still have a title because we need one but that's about it..Thanks to all who have voted so far.

barrysloate 05-01-2009 02:47 PM

I voted "no" because when you think about it, what difference does it make how often you post? And I see the "nos" are leading roughly 2:1.

deadballera 05-01-2009 02:50 PM

I also voted "NO".

Matt 05-01-2009 02:57 PM

I'll vote yes if the rankings are reversed, so that you start out as an expert and get progressively demoted the more you post.

Leon 05-01-2009 03:02 PM

Barry

I am going to take all of the titles away except yours. Yours is going to change to "Living Legend"

RichR 05-01-2009 03:04 PM

Love that idea Matt :D

geor952 05-01-2009 03:06 PM

I vote "yes," just out of it being kind of fun. But, I concur, if people feel this strongly, no titles. My vote is still yes though:). And I too love the smileys! I for one am trying to post more on the new forum and the titles will make it fun.

V117collector 05-01-2009 03:06 PM

No!

Net54 should not have any type of seniority system that rewards members for posting. I think everyone should be viewed as an equal participant without being labeled regardless of post activity.

JamesGallo 05-01-2009 03:16 PM

Well

The one beifit would be that if someone was a senior member and you were doing a deal with them you would have a point of reference, ie it becomes a reference.

I am not sure it is needed but that would be one benifit.

barrysloate 05-01-2009 03:28 PM

Leon- as long as I'm still living, legend is fine.:)

Leon 05-01-2009 03:31 PM

Good point but the post count by each members name will also aid in knowing if someone is a regular. At any rate I thought it would be fun but I guess I am in the minority....and I stayed true to my statement before and didn't, and won't, vote...:(

slidekellyslide 05-01-2009 03:35 PM

Well, I voted yes and really am surprised that it's almost 2-1 in favor of no titles. Either way is fine, but lots of boards that I participate have them and it's never been a problem.

V117collector 05-01-2009 03:59 PM

55 members have voted now, so it shows the majority of members are lurkers and not posters. Having the “user titles system” is a poor representation to knowing whose regular or not.

Chris D. 05-01-2009 04:04 PM

I say no.

I think post count is irrelevant.

Doug 05-01-2009 04:09 PM

I voted no too. I don't really think the number of posts is as relevant as their content. Quality over quantity.

BoSox1908 05-01-2009 04:19 PM

No vote here, I see a problem with it somewhere down the road. Would be best with none.

Ron

3-2-count 05-01-2009 04:25 PM

"Nah, meaningless feature".

Perfectly stated from another member.

Tony A.

Rob D. 05-01-2009 04:27 PM

If it's fun, it should not be done.

Koufax 05-01-2009 04:31 PM

I think it could be fun. If it gets abused, it could always be done away with. Never know if you don't try ... only live once.

Leon 05-01-2009 04:32 PM

We are 2 peas in a pod.....that's not saying much for you.....

Gecklund311 05-01-2009 04:37 PM

I voted yes...I really don't get how people are anticipating all these problems with it. Anyone that would have a problem with it would just be revealing themselves as someone who needs to get out a little more.

Adding a little fun to things should take priority over idiot-proofing them.

Abravefan11 05-01-2009 04:46 PM

I voted yes for something I see as pretty insignificant to the day to day contributions of the board, but from time to time could add a little fun. What's wrong with that?

botn 05-01-2009 05:04 PM

There is already a post count at the upper right so why not.

chaddurbin 05-01-2009 05:35 PM

i haven't voted...just want to know ahead if leon has access to whether i voted yes or no (yes it will affect my vote).

Leon 05-01-2009 05:47 PM

There is an option within a poll to have all of the voters be known but I chose to have it be private. If I "can" see how folks vote I don't know how to do it nor do I want to know. I really wish my seeing wouldn't affect a vote but I guess it could. So the short answer is "no"....I won't see votes.

batsballsbases 05-01-2009 05:54 PM

yes no

Leon,
Tough crowd out there on the new board:D:D I voted NO oops Leon can see that. My bad!!:eek:

J.McMurry 05-01-2009 06:51 PM

This may already have been addressed with the new registration requirements, but on the old board BST, I often found myself wishing that sellers had some type of identifying "title" so as to give me an idea of their status with the rest of the board. I have pretty much figured out who the trustworthy vets are,but thats mainly because they post alot. Some dont.

Did that make any kind of sense?

jcmtiger 05-01-2009 08:11 PM

Not needed.

Joe

ethicsprof 05-01-2009 09:08 PM

poll

as i mentioned on the other board,my experience with this was not good on another board where folks were thought of --by some-- as not good colleagues/friends if
they didn't have a certain number of posts on a regular basis.
competition can deteriorate into many odd,and not so helpful ,things methinks.

i'm ag'in it.

best,

barry

mybuddyinc 05-02-2009 01:17 AM

I'll always be happy to be a Jr. member ................. kinda' suits me

DaveH 05-02-2009 10:09 AM

Quantity of posts does not represent quality. I can think of a few past members that prove that. I vote no.

Leon 05-02-2009 10:19 AM

okee dokee

The poll is closed. It was going to have to be the opposite way it is in order to do the titles as I didn't/don't want to do what a large portion of the board doesn't want. I thought it would be fun, as well as about 30% of the other respondents but that wasn't anywhere close enough (imo) to do them.....thanks to everyone who voted....

FrankWakefield 05-02-2009 10:42 AM

I vote no.

I like Matt's idea. And I like a post count. A down side with titles would be that some folks would post just to improve their title.

I've seen places where folks voted about how good a post or poster was. I'm not necessarily very keen on that, here, either.

So no to titles, but do count the post numbers, I think.

Leon 05-02-2009 11:22 AM

now everyone is the same

Everyone is now a "member"..........except moderators and myself. Everyone is equal.

Jim VB 05-02-2009 12:48 PM

Seems a little "Socialistic", if you know what I mean...

:D:D:D

V117collector 05-02-2009 01:03 PM

Yes everyone is now a member… expect for the swollen members:D

DaveH 05-02-2009 05:49 PM

double post, see below

DaveH 05-02-2009 05:53 PM

Hey Leon,

You should change your title to "pleasant"/forum owner. It can't get any better than this. Luv Ya.

Sixtofan 05-02-2009 06:48 PM

Not sure that it really adds a lot of value
