Grading Vintage Cards
I'm an old school collector who is considering getting my 1889-1920's cards graded. which service should I use? I want to protect some and sell others. thanks for your input

I am thinking SGC for those years....

SGC would get my vote.

SGC
edited to capitalize GC |
If you are trying to preserve your collection I would go with SGC. If you are looking for high prices for resale I would go with PSA.

Two points to make.
1. I agree SGC is the best company to work with, although, if your intent is to sell right away, there may be some sets or cards that work better with PSA. 2. You should post this question on the main board, which covers cards, not just this board which covers memorabilia. Some of the regular card guys rarely read this board. |

Don't get caught up in the "all PSA cards bring higher prices on resale" myth. |
For the years you listed SGC would be my choice.

Sgc
SGC definitely. They are more accurate and more respected by those who know better.

P.S. If you have nice cards with paper loss on the back or stray markings, definitely go with PSA. |
Vintage Cards Graded
If you plan to sell your cards, call REA auctions and let them get them graded for you. You will save a considerable amount of money.
We give our most valuable cards to SGC, albeit cards from the 1930's on seem to perform better with PSA- because there are so many set registry collectors. Would love to know more about what you have Please write in confidence to Bruce Dorskind America''s Toughest Want List bdorskind@dorskindgroup.com |

thanks to everybody for their response. really helps me.

Hey Bruce, here's an idea. If you have anything vile and hateful to say, please say it on the board, not in private emails or PM's.
I've already blocked your emails directly to me. I've now blocked your PM's. I guess you could still send me an email through the Net54 system. I'd prefer not to shut that down, but will if I have to. In the meantime, if any of these "blocks" falters, I will assume that you are OK with me pasting your message directly on the board. So if you want me injured or dead, want to say I'm a jackass because I live in Texas, or any other lame insult, feel free to write it right here on the board. (Oh yeah, that whole anti-Texas thing... you should get out more. The world doesn't end at the Hudson River.) |
