Brockelman & Luckey Preview Is Up

I know these guys are too modest to hype their own auction (well Scott is anyway), but the preview is up and the material is amazing. B&L has moved to a new level-congratulations guys!

Bill Stone 09-22-2010 02:50 PM

This should be fun !

TCardFan 09-22-2010 02:52 PM

Those D303s look amazing, best of luck to Leon.

Leon 09-22-2010 03:27 PM

Thanks

Thanks guys....This looks to be our best effort yet. Thanks to all of our consignors and customers. As much as I like to be a ball hog I merged the 2 threads about the auction that were right next to each other. The other little "manage thread" sign will expire and be gone in 4 hours. Then only this one will be active. I know how folks get about deleting anything so thought I would explain. Best of luck to anyone that will be participating in the auction. Scott and I still have a lot of proofing to do, as we know there are quite a few misspellings, grammar errors, apostrohe errors :) etc....and a few scans to be added, but we have had several emails asking about the preview so we went ahead and opened it to be seen. It opens for bidding this Saturday and goes until Oct. 9th....thanks much.

Abravefan11 09-22-2010 03:44 PM

Is it just me or is the opening bid for Lot #162 a little steep? :)

sb1 09-22-2010 03:56 PM

Fixed

Thanks, a little too many zero's

Scott

This is your best auction yet. Congrats!

Auction

I was looking at this auction last night and I was amazed at the variety and the quality of the lots. This should be a great auction.

Auction is up

There was a slight delay in opening, but we are live for bidding. Good Luck and enjoy.

Scott and Leon

Leon 09-25-2010 11:33 AM

I promise

I promise not to bump this thread very often....Scott and I just don't advertise on the main page, we prefer to dilute the ad spaces :(.

I just want to say that we now have our only withdrawn lot, that NEVER even had a lot from the opening minute, get a bid. It is our policy not to discuss bidders but when I saw that I had to LOL....It is lot #235, we had to juggle another lot as it really did get withdrawn, and had that one open spot. But the "no" lot has a bid. This almost has to be first. Too freakin' funny. To the bidder, and you know who you are (you can say if you want to, I won't), YOU are the MAN!! You made my morning. :).

Good luck to everyone in the auction. There does seem to be something for collectors on almost every budget.

Oh man

just when money is real tight you come out with this auction... Great auction by the way. Alas, all I can do is drool. oh well

peterose4hof 09-25-2010 02:24 PM

Very nice selection! I just added a few lots to my watchlist.

It's very nice to see such a wide price range. This is truly an auction with something for everyone.

Rich Klein 09-25-2010 02:53 PM

As an FYI

I had lunch with Leon today after the postcard show, I found some nice New York post cards I wanted (Non-Baseball) -- he did not find anything.

One of the best and underrated aspects of the B&L auctions is the preview. In the previews, if someone sees something which may be a problem, the item can be pulled before it even gets to the floor. To me, this transparency solves so many problems. If every auction house did this, then I suspect we would reduce, but not eliminate, some of the issues that come up on this board.

Regards
Rich

Any baseball at all at the pc show?

Rich Klein 09-25-2010 04:15 PM

Yes, but most of it was 80's postcards (after all it is a postcard show). I saw about 2-3 decent, pre-1930 postcards of generic teams and they were about "high" ebay prices....I could have haggled but I can get the same thing for less anyway, so why bother. All of the people are real nice so that is always a plus. And if we think median age of this board is bad I bet the show was about an average of 65-70. (I am not dissing those ages as I see them in the headlights for myself!!)

tbob 09-25-2010 09:45 PM

Less than 12 hours after the auction opened and prices for the E97 black and whites and Home Run Kisses are already at what they have been selling for on ebay! Looks like Leon and Scott are going to have a very successful auction if this is any indication of how these and other cards are going to fare.

chaddurbin 09-25-2010 11:20 PM

i haven't seen an e97 mullin b/w in forever, and tese b/ws r in nice shape.

oldjudge 09-27-2010 10:19 AM

A general question-Do people think that the auction's open format (you can bid any time, even in the last 15 minutes, whether you have bid on a lot or not) holds down early bidding? Is there any incentive to bid prior to the last hours of the auction?

It probably does hold down early bidding but so long as the hammer bidding is as strong as possible, which is the point of the open format, it doesn't matter.

chaddurbin 09-27-2010 11:40 AM

with some of the high openings it might be better to get in that initial bid at market price where a 2nd or 3rd bid would be "reaching".

The countdown is on...good luck everyone!

the ending day bump never brings the bidders good luck :(

End in sight?

Any idea on when it might end?

Tony

Leon 10-09-2010 09:58 PM

at least about 30 more minutes

I think it will go at least 1+ more hours....I can't say for sure though. We had around 120 bids in the last hour, and are tracking about 100 this hour..Each hour is split into 15 minute increments and when one of those increments doesn't get a bid placed in it, the whole auction closes. It's the software!! ...regards

oldjudge 10-09-2010 10:26 PM

Great job guys! Still a few bargains, but most lots are full value (or more).

Leon 10-09-2010 10:34 PM

thanks Jay

Thanks Jay...there are still quite a few battles being fought. Some amazing prices on a few pieces....

Leon 10-09-2010 11:31 PM

courtesy heads up on timing

Since there was a bid in a new 15 minute increment, just now, the auction will be going at least +/- 30 more minutes...LL

With regard to the software, I can't see the countdown clock with Google Chrome browser, but I can with Internet Explorer ver 8. (I think Scott and Leon are in cahoots with Bill Gates :D ) Great auction, guys!

Leon 10-10-2010 12:53 AM

Firefox either

Come to find out it doesn't work with Firefox either. If no one bids it will close in about 7 minutes :)

seablaster 10-10-2010 04:39 AM

The brown Lenox Lajoie made some serious strides in the final day of bidding.

sb1 10-10-2010 06:09 AM

Thanks to all

A big thank you to all of the consignors and bidders.

The auction went extremely smooth and many pieces brought record prices. While some of these were very tough issues, many of the more mainstream issues also saw levels not seen for the last several years. The vintage card market is alive and very healthy it would appear.

Incredibly rare back combined with high grade and a HOFer to boot.

Northviewcats 10-10-2010 10:00 AM

nice auction

Thanks Leon and Scott for running the auction. I won four lots. I like that you offer items that the average collector can afford. I had a lot of fun monitoring the auction on my laptop and watching the Yankees/Twin game on TV last night. I hope that your sellers were happy and that you will be able to run similar auctions in the future.

Best wishes,

Joe

Pup6913 10-10-2010 10:33 AM

Thanks to work and Family in town I missed the WOJO T205. At a steal of a price also.

Nice auction guys. Had some very nice stuff.

Just to add if the winner of that card wants to make a few $ contact me and we can talk.

tbob 10-10-2010 10:51 AM

Excellent auction guys, I enjoyed the variety of issues. I thought a couple of times I had the Cycle back Mogridge but someone just wanted it more. :(
Ditto the C46 Dummy Taylor. I just hate it when someone jumps in and wants a card regardless of price.
Oh well, glad to pick up a nice T210 Series 8 card at a nice price. Nice job, look forward to more auctions in the future.

e107collector 10-10-2010 11:12 AM

It was a great night!

I won the E93 Honus Wagner SGC 30, and the Cy Young T206 Glove Shows with Old Mill back SGC 40.

Great auction with strong prices all around. I'm a little surprised nobody put a bid on the Allen & Ginter poster. Very rare item in nice condition.

pitchernut 10-10-2010 11:21 AM

left overs

So, what happens to the items that didn't sell? Can we make offers to the consign-er? Or is that another one of those "not done" things, I have done it with ebay, worked a couple of times:rolleyes:

ethicsprof 10-10-2010 11:48 AM

fabulous auction!
i've now won in 4 of the 5 B&L auctions and proud of it.
This time i won 4 lots: 3 Conlon photos of T206 players and the E121 Herpolsheimer's Geo. Burns (only one known).
The latter will go well with my Holsum D327 Herzog.
super!
best,
barry

1 card (V100) and 1 Type Sumpthin' photo for me. Thanks guys.

bijoem 10-10-2010 12:54 PM

I just wanted to say -

this time around, I was a consignor in the B&L Auction.
Their customer service was above and beyond (top notch).

In a prior auction I won a lot as a bidder.

From both perspectives (bidder and consignor) - - - I think B&L was absolutely great and they are building a very nice brand in the auction business.

great auction guys.

1934 Goudey Wrapper

This was my first win in B&L Auctions. I think this will make a nice companion piece to my 1934 Goudey set (in progress).
