And Now For Something Completely Different

Let's have some fun: post a card that you think is rare, obscure or just plain unusual. I will start with this movie studio mail reply card of Jack Dempsey

And this wire photo of 'superfly' George Foreman and Ken Norton

The "deathbed" is one of a set of five postcards made by photographer A.H. Beckett to commemorate the ill-fated World White Heavyweight championship fight between Luther McCarty and Arthur Pelkey on May 24, 1913 in Calgary, Canada. The cards were available within weeks of the tragedy.

The famous "sunray" photo, illuminating the stricken McCarty, is widely believed to be an enhanced image — although several spectators reported seeing the beam of light, which abruptly vanished as referee Ed Smith tolled "10!" over the prone fighter.

The window card advertises a McCarty exhibition in Lancaster, Pa., on Feb. 6, 1913.

...which doesn't necessarily translate to valuable. Just picked up this and several other 1940's Italian boxing cards. I find them interesting, but mainly I just like to pronounce the names with a fake Italian accent.

Actually, I would be thrilled if someone could offer any additional info on these cards. You know, the usual- date of issue, issuer, number of cards in set, are they cut from a strip, a sheet or just individual cards, etc.

Just because it is one of my favorite cards ever and I've never seen another:

As a Lajoie collector, I'd never seen this postcard until it surfaced in a Hake's auction a few months ago. I'm curious whether boxing collectors are familiar with it.

Did you get that one, Rob? I had my eye on that since I collect Jeffries stuff but the price, wow...Had to settle for this card:

To answer your question, nope, never seen it before, but I'm sure gonna look for it now.

Rob,

I haven't seen that Lajoie/Jeffries postcard as well. You might ask Craig Hamilton, I know through the years he has had more Jeffries photos than anyone I know. http://www.josportsinc.com/main.php?section=home

Found this old thread and thought I would share. I pulled this out a binder filled with assorted photos at a card show on Long Island. Definitely the most unique piece in my collection.
