Mark's post in the June pick-up thread led me to start this thread. Be it photos, magazines, or any old thing that shows players with kids... Let's see what ya got!

Good to see Mark giving such a good home to the Gehrig with Christy Walsh Jr. photo.

This vintage original c. 1937 photograph was taken at the New York Times Photo Studio as part of an advertising campaign for the short lived Huskies Cereal. This photo also came directly from the Christy Walsh Family.

Johnny Vander Meer demonstrating the pitching technique that he used to pitch consecutive no-hitters in 1938 to the locals in his hometown Midland Park, NJ. This photo was taken at his parents farm immediately following the second no-hitter on June 15, 1938.

A photo of my father Jim Garner, HOF Hank Greenberg and Nick Altrock at Briggs Stadium circa 1938. This photo ran in The Detroit News and was taken by my namesake, Scotty McGregor who was a photographer for the paper for many years.

Here's mine.

I'll start with aforementioned Gehrig with Christy Walsh's son. (Thanks Jimmy! It does have a good home now.)

A little imagination here for the player but I always loved this picture, I missed out on this about 8 years ago on ebay but if you look close you will see a nice Babe Ruth Scorer Fob hanging from the kids belt.

That's so cool Al! Good eye on that one. Well, at least you saved a scan of it.

This one came from the Christy Walsh Family. I do believe that this image was used for one of Babe's cards from the 1920s.

Great photos & neat thread idea. I didn't think there would be so many examples. Here are a couple more, circa 1918-19. Sorry for the big scans.

From the Christy Walsh Family comes this 1925 vintage original photo of the famous/infamous "Bellyache heard 'round the World"

What other ballplayer would give the kid a trophy from a hospital bed? It looks like he was still in pain too.

You're absolutely right, Randall! When I posted this photo a couple years ago, I mention something similar. The difference in their expressions are priceless. Word was of course, that the Babe had the Clap.

mcgwirecom 07-06-2012 11:42 PM

LOL yeah I had heard that. I only recently heard that his adopted daughter was probably his actual daughter from another woman. Supposedly when he brought the baby home he also brought a "nurse" who was the real mother. I think I read that his family even admits that.

Thanks Jimmy. That "bellyache" shot is great. The Babe looks less than thrilled to say the least.
