What is the "most economical" set pre WW2?

Happy National-eve! So a question I meant to post prior to leaving for the show. By "set" I am saying 50+ cards and have been looking around trying to find one that would contain the days stars still but are very affordable. The 1929 Kashins seems to fall into this as the Ruth and Gehrig both appear to sell very cheaply compared to their other cards. Opinions on bith WW! and WW2 would be very appreciated.

My vote is for the T201 set or the B18 blanket set.

Several choices

34-36 Diamond Stars
36 Fine Pens
36 Wide Pens
36 goudey's

All seem pretty reasonable.

Cheers,
Patrick

'36 S & S, but it's fugly.
My vote would go to '34-'36 Diamond Stars if you skip the high numbers that are repeats of the lower one. Or '41 Playball.

Hey Steve,

Well, the obvious answer to your question is "anything I am NOT collecting" :)

In terms of availability of cards with the ability to complete the set without any huge hurdles, I would have to agree with the t201's, but it barely fits your criterion of greater than 50 cards.

See you at the National tomorrow!

The first one I really tackled was the T205s though I stopped at only unique fronts and didn't worry about backs. Very accessible, fun, colorful, good representation of the era, can be had affordably if you are forgiving so far as grade goes.

The 1938 PM8 'Our National Game' pins set isn't terribly attractive, but is loaded with HOFers including Gehrig and DiMaggio.

I like the 1921 Exhibit set, it is 64 cards and on the lower end of cost and is loaded with HOFers including Ruth, Cobb, WaJo, Alexander.

How about the W572 set? It's obviously not the cheapest to collect, but if you are looking for a lot of great players without spending thousands and thousands, it would be appealing.
