Interesting E96/E79 red back card

2 Attachment(s)
Thought this card is interesting, I have no real theory as to why an E96 card would be printed on the same sheet as the E79 red back cards or vice versa. I can't recall seeing a miscut back that had two different series of cards and thought some of you guys might have a look.

wow.....very interesting..........unless maybe they were on larger sheets with Baker being say to the left of the page? Don't remember any like what you're showing either. Neat item........love anything that gives insight into the printing process and how these were laid out. That would also date the set about the same time to obviously.........

Andrew,

In 2009 I wrote a book about the Philadelphia Caramel company and the
cards they issued. The red back boxing cards are actually E80's. MANY
THANKS for the scan as it now solidifies my theory that the E80/E96 were
"printed and issued around the same time." (p.51)

There was a previous post some time ago about the similarities the E80/E96
cards share. Read 7th and 8th post from attahced link:

Found one of these in the Boston Find. Didn't show as much of the E79 text as yours, but was certain it was a different back. Was sold on the BST last year.

Is your book still being offered for sale? I didn't see it on Amazon.

Holy Sh**. That's a huge find in my opinion.

Erik: Printed/issued around the same time? Yes, but on the same sheet? Wow.

This helps to explain the wrong back menageries as well.

Robert,

In rereading my post from attached link, I think I used
the phrase that the E80/E96 sets were "related." I too
was in awe when I first saw the scan showing both backs.
They're even more related than I originally thought!

Good stuff,

That is simply awesome. To see them both on the same card is fascinating. Thanks for sharing this with us.

that's awesome...much cooler than a blue om back!!!!!

Great card [sorry I forgot to respond to your PM; just got away from me]. I call them E79 red backs. Some call them E80 but Burdick treated them as E79, so I'm going with the master if the dual nomenclature is to be used. Really, the issue is academic IMO since they should be collected together as a two or three series single issue. Of course, I'd treat E96 as a second series of the other 25 "making the total issue 55" [E95??; I don't know baseball E cards] rather than as an independent set, but WTF do I know anyway.

caramelcard 08-23-2012 06:56 PM

Makes me wonder if they were also packaged together? What's next? Maybe a T206 with a T59 back.

Rob

egbeachley 08-23-2012 08:11 PM

Well there is that T206 with a Hustler back.

caramelcard 08-23-2012 08:14 PM

Yes, but it's a fugazi.
