Black Betsy - Now that's a markup!!!!

Sold in Mears 2 weeks ago, $880:

http://sports.mearsonlineauctions.co...rchvalue=black betsy&page=0&sortby=0&displayby=2&lotsperpage=100& category=1&seo=1922-28-Black-Betsy-(Joe-Jackson-Model)-H%26B-Louisville-Slugger-Side-Written-Professional-Model-Bat--

On Ebay for $10,000:

I don't see any connection to Joe Jackson other then the bat has a Black Betsy finish, so do the Black Betsy Spaldings that sell regularly for 200-500.

He says "all reasonable offers" so maybe an offer of $800 would be reasonable? The seller just put 1 too many 0's on his asking price. Simple mistake.

I was puzzled by this bat when I reviewed it during the MEARS auction. It is side written with another player name, yet the description tries hard to imply that Jackson might have used it. The weight is wrong as well, with the Black Betsy sold by Heritage at close to 40 ounces and this one at 33.5.

The eBay seller has also boldly used the graphics from the MEARS auction in his own listing, though has now lowered the price to a very reasonable $7,995...blowing a bit of a hole in Leon's "extra zero" theory.

I don't see how they "imply hard that jackson used it", they just stated it has a dark finish like Jackson's bats.

Maybe the auction headline?

(JOE JACKSON MODEL) "GAME USED" {BLACK BETSY} PROFESSIONAL MODEL BAT (MEARS A7)
(BAT USED DURING) : BARNSTORMING TOUR 1922-28

The seller said this when they could have just as easily said, "John Let "'GAME USED'" {BLACK BETSY} PROFESSIONAL MODEL BAT (MEARS A7)
(BAT USED DURING) : BARNSTORMING TOUR 1922-28

But, of course, people would ask, "who is /was John Let and why does the seller think I should pay $10,000 dollars for a bat he used?"

I'm just annoyed by all that superfluous punctuation

Sorry didn't see the barnstorming part.

down to 999.00

It'll be interesting to see if someone bites with the huge price drop.

I still view it as a $200 bat. maybe.
