The Alpha set is amazing, at least I have the reprint set that Dan gave to me in Philly :D

glchen 09-17-2013 11:23 AM

Cool story, and nice to put a face to the name. I actually really liked the photo of the Washington Times cards more. What incredible cards. Nice display in the background also. Dan, you should show more of your collection.

mrvster 09-17-2013 11:25 AM

Finally, a calm piece involving Dan. Oh yah, he didn't write it. Dan, just kidding. Please send my best to pop.

Nice to see a feature story on one of the hobby's good guys. Sold me a Goudey Moe Berg for my Jewish collection.

loved the article... nice Dan!

z28jd 09-17-2013 12:01 PM

Dan once loaned me $20 at a show after I spent all my money right before finding a deal I couldn't pass up. I just read this article, so I'd say we are even.

wonkaticket 09-17-2013 12:07 PM

That was my $20, he said you took it.

Dan is one of my favorite people in the hobby, was very happy to see this. Being around his old man as a kid was one of my childhood collecting moments that I will never forget....of course I didn't know Dan then he was too busy chasing girls.

Cheers,

John

Seriously though, nice article and Dan is a great guy to deal with.

Great article, but I was hoping Wonka had supplied the picture to illustrate it.
Congrats Dan, and send my best to Pops. Missed him at the National this year.

The article mentions that a few HoFers will be for sale again soon? Or did I misinterpret the article?? I'm interested to know (a) which HOF rookie collector bought them and (b) which cards will be available???

Any of these cards would trump the "1 of 1" thread that's currently up!!

Very cool article for sure!!

brianp-beme 09-17-2013 03:51 PM

Good job

Nice article Dan...it always cool to be recognized for special hobby endeavors.

A picture of Dan Mckee with a big smile on his face, holding graded cards. That is going to come in very handy down the road...

rc4157 09-17-2013 04:01 PM

I should get a banner made for the board of him holding those, smiling.

Great article, Dan! Nice to finally put a face with your name. Super, super cards.

thetruthisoutthere 09-17-2013 05:27 PM

I enjoy coming to this side every so often to read the great stories about old cards.

Very nice.

Bosox Blair 09-17-2013 06:00 PM

Kudos to Jonathan Pitts, the author of this piece.

It is some kind of minor miracle that somebody wrote a piece like this for a non-hobby publication. And gave readers the impression that collecting was not dead, cards were not worthless, etc.

There is hope yet...

Cheers,
Blair

tennisguy 09-17-2013 07:00 PM

Good Guy!

Nice to see a good story about the hobby and one of the good guys involved in it.

calvindog 09-19-2013 06:25 AM

Great article. I was thinking how funny/sad it is the article would probably be one of like 2-3 in the entire paper that I'd be interested in reading. :)

ValKehl 09-19-2013 09:57 PM

So, Dan, am I correct in thinking that if I were to make you a six-figure offer for your 1910 Wash. Times collection or your WaJo collection, I might be able to acquire one of them?! :D

Best to you and Pops,
Val

michael3322 09-20-2013 03:56 AM

Great article for sure.

Who is this collector who acquired the set from Dan and is now selling off the cards? Is it an open secret that I just haven't been clued in on yet or is the guy unknown to the Net54 board?

tedzan 09-20-2013 07:08 AM

Dan......you're "the Man"

Tremendous story, read thru it twice......really enjoyed it.

My best regards to you and your Dad.
