question on this item
As a Dummy Taylor collector. Im considering adding this piece to my collection but I felt that I should check with you all to see what kind of item is this. Is it really from 1905?

The seller doesn't mention the dimensions or paper stock and I would ask them, but it appears to be a page from a Spaldings baseball guide.

As Chris said, ask him what the dimensions are. This looks like a page from a Reach Guide for that year. The Spalding Guide used an array of rectangular portraits in their 1906 guide (1905 season) while Reach used this format for a few years.
I suspect it is either a page from the guide or a poster based on that picture. If it is really from 1905 it has aged very well, very little wear and still very bright with amazing corners for a poster. |
Depending on the size, it would seem one person's poster is another's imposter.
With that awful word play aside, if it's a large size and not a repro, isn't it a page from a W601 Sporting Life portfolio? See the three examnples in Legendary http://www.legendaryauctions.com/Lot...-Including-A.L'' with photo from 1905 Giants page from Legendary http://www.legendaryauctions.com/Ite...60032c_lg.jpeg |
I agree it looks like a W601, but I am not comfortable judging authenticity by the scans. Usually you can find one of these for 100 dollars or so, assuming there were no major HOFers (especially rookies). I think they are undervalued because of their size.
