If you had $3k to spend

If you had $3k to spend on cards or autos would you use it buy a Ruth Auto or some other auto?

bender07 01-13-2014 11:56 AM

I don't collect cards so it would be Ruth.

I wouldn't mind using the $3k to add both a Cobb and a Wagner to my collection. Are you offering the $3k for the best answer? If so I can be more creative! :D

I'd keep saving it until I have enough to buy the Gehrig I really want.

I think $3K for a Ruth that you are positive is real, is money well-spent. They can only go up.

Since I already have a Ruth, I would buy two 50-yrd line, 2nd row tickets to the NFC championship game, and have a little left over for really bad hotdogs, as many beers as I could drink, and kick-ass his and hers Seahawks jerseys.

It would depend. Sometimes there are great items of inexpensive players. I would love say one of Joe Wood's contracts to play with Boston. But his signature is otherwise easy and cheap to obtain.

I would prefer a nice one of a kind item like a contract to a signed baseball or cut, even of a lesser but still popular player like Joe Wood.

Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Satchel Paige and spend the rest on beer...

chaddurbin 01-13-2014 04:28 PM

a cobb card/wagner auto or a ruth auto is a tough choice...go big or go home ruth wins out.

$3k wouldnt even cover the tax for a christy mathewson auto

toyman55 01-13-2014 06:57 PM

I would definitely be looking for a 1950's signed Brooklyn Dodger ball.

That would be cool, or maybe a Willie, Mickey & Duke ball, (I wonder how much that would cost?). I like the idea of group photos signed, maybe something like the Gashouse gang. Gehrig would be awesome for a single signature. What I'd really treasure would be an Ebbetts seat, signed or unsigned.

A nice Ruth signed flat . . .

.

. . . or even a less-then-bold Ruth signed baseball (sweetspot of course) would be very cool, but I have to go with the minority and spend the money on a team signed baseball. In my case, a boldly signed Detroit Tigers team baseball from the mid/late teens or early 1920's. Much smaller market appeal, but definately hard to find, and perhaps even more difficult at this ceiling price. But it is nice to indulge in a momentary daydream from time to time, and even better when the daydream becomes a reality :-) Now where is that fairy godmother when I need her ???

whyconform 01-14-2014 07:53 AM

hmm....Based on my PC and who I need, I'd be looking for a Grover Alexander/Comiskey/McGraw auto..I think I should be able to cover those at 3k, or perhaps a Alex Cartwright and either Galex or Comisk..hmm

But Ruth is a key guy, so I would def jump for his if it weren't in the collection.

Well, you are in luck - there are more and more of those being produced every day. They should eventually be affordable.

...because everybody likes ghost-writers.

I would get a few of the Perez Steele HOF post cards for the set I'm working on.
