Really SGC? Horribly disappointing.
My cards are completely ruined. Shipped incredibly well from an auction house.

Wow! I've never seen anything like it......I feel horrible for you.
|
I have had several cards slide under the gasket, but fortunately mine escaped damage. My guess is they will make things right for you.
|
They've got to fix that floating card problem. Happens not infrequently to me. Usually I can tap them into place and I've never had a card ruined. Sorry
|
Your cards aren't ruined. They look pretty nice for the grade actually. Just call SGC and get them to fix the holders. It does happen too often and they probably need to address that situation. It has happened to all of us me included. Worst case is maybe one of them is 1 grade lower, if the heavy corner ding is what happened. They will make it right.....
|
That sucks. I hope they fix it for you.
|
Sean....
as Leon said......SGC is all about customer service.....they rock
|
Despite the damage, they are still beautiful looking cards.
|
Oh those look terrible!
Quick get rid of them, you need to ship them to me ASAP.......:D |
SGC seems to have had ongoing problems with the supersized holders.
The same thing happened to me with a 1939 R303-A Goudey Premium of Ted Williams. I bought it from David Bryan a few years ago. He of course, shipped it very well, but the slab came apart from the bottom right corner, half-way up the side and across the bottom. The card also popped out and dropped down behind the black gasket. Anyway, I took it with me to last year's National, and had SGC reslab it. There was absolutely no damage to the card, and I had it back from SGC within just a couple of hours. Steve |
The same thing happened to me recently with a rather expensive Old Judge proof of Kid Nichols I bought in Hunt Auctions. The card slid in the holder and scraped the bottom edge. I was breaking it out anyway so not a major issue. The large holder is just a piece of shit.

Sean,
You are so dramatic stating your cards are completely ruined... The Net 54 group of collectors are very fond of SGC and you won't get much traction bashing them here. Honestly, just about every time I log on to Net 54 and see a post by you, I feel a kind of negative feeling. What can it be this time? Self promotion, some kind of scandal or scam, scammer situation that works out, or you getting ripped off etc. I am glad you buy big deals and have the dollars to pay the highest prices for cards (which you do not), but gaining respect from your fellow collectors and dealers is way more important in my opinion. Hey, I' no picnic in the hobby and have ruffled more than my share of feathers, but I just don't get it. With National coming up I know you will want as many people as possible to stop at your table, but with your continued drama and perceived attitude you may be sadly disappointed that some here will not. I have been around the hobby since 2001 mainly on the fringe and wish you the best. You would have been eaten alive on the old board. Oh well, guess you don't know about the old board. Let me have it. Matt Engle Ohio |
Well that escalated quickly.

Sean,
With all due respect to other grading companies, SGC is in my opinion the best in the business. Not only do they provide world class grading, but world class customer service as well. They will take care of You. |
Thanks for the responses guys. I emailed SGC we will see what happens.
|
Sean...
sorry to see that happen....SGC are a total class act......their customer service is awesome....they, imho, are the best in the business.....they know vintage...unfortunately looks like a tech. issue with the slabs prob from their manufacturer/supplier:confused:.....I'm sure the will straighten it out....look know where else when slabbing these beauties.....I'm sure they will rectify it....
they will take care of it i'm sure....their professionalism and customer support is second to none! I would not think twice about submitting my cards......they are trusted from me:) sean, sorry that happened, but they are still great pieces....and still have great visual appeal......I'm sure they will fix the problem.... :) peace johnny |

Wow, Sean, I'm really sorry this happened. SGC will make this right, but they really do need to look into their gaskets. I've had a couple T206 cards slip out like that in transit. I'm lucky they weren't damaged.
Let us know what happens. |

I emailed with a staff member at SGC and he told me there is no plan to make pop reports publicly available. |
Quote:
I guess it's the cards I collect, I don't know, but I have never had a real problem with SGC's pop reports. They are inferior to PSA's, certainly, but it has never been too difficult for me to navigate them. So many other people complain, though, that I must be missing something. |
I have never had a problem with SGC pop reports either.

I love SGC & trust them & ....have had to re submit cards due to cases problems as well. I guess the trust trumps the case issue in my mind |
I smell a potential lawsuit brewing. On a serious note.....I will take SGC over PSA any day of the week as far as service and prewar accuracy. If it were an SGC 84 I would better understand your frustration. The card is not ruined.
|
Both PSA and SGC are staffed by pesky mortals who have their good days and their bad days when it comes to subjective grading. Buy the card.....not the holder still rings true.

Hey Sean
I had that same thing happen to a Ruth strip card that I thought SGC had sent me an empty holder until I turned it over. I emailed Scott and he personally called me and apologized and redid the entire order for free (as there were 7 cards that had done it to a lesser degree in the order I had sent in of 11 cards).
He also gave me my next entire order free which was nice as I almost always do next day service. I don't know if you have his email or not but if you need it just PM me and I can shoot that over to you. Hope you get it worked out. |

Would it really be that difficult for SGC to employ a thicker gasket? End of problem.
|
Same with me.I sent in an Old Judge cabinet to be reslabbed, and just being mailed back, the card is not secure ,and also the name tag???The slab is too loose and will not hold this larger card in place.

Even if the issue is being caused by poor quality control on the clear plastic front & back that make up the holder, a thicker gasket would solve this problem. |
I wanted to provide an update that two people from SGC reached out to me and I assume everything will be resolved.

That is really unacceptable and far from a new issue.

Yeah, that shouldn't be happening. Clean it up SGC

David,
That's terrible. I'm so sorry. Can you tell how much damage was done to those cabinet cards from the time they were photographed for auction? I hope SGC fixes this issue, and fast. I also hope they make restitution in your case, because that should have never happened. I can't believe SGC hasn't resolved this issue by now. |

I had the exact thing happen on the card pictured below last year. Fortunately it wasn't damaged, at least based on a detailed comparison with the auction scan. But it was pretty disconcerting when I opened the package, everything seemed to be flying all over the place.
Also happened on a less expensive card purchased earlier this year from a Board member. |
David, that's maddening.

SGC, if your reading this get your act together! Totally unacceptable.
And we place our trust in these guys based on this? Piss poor!! |

Complete failure of a primary function of their product. I cannot imagine that any SGC executive finds this problem anything less that a huge embarrassment.
