I don't see Jack Johnson in this pc.. that could be Jim Jeffries on the far left, yes?

The black man is definitely Bob Armstrong; the guy in the middle is Jeffries' trainer. The guy at the end in the derby is either Jeffries or Sam Berger [I can't tell]:

Yup, my first thought was Armstrong. Don't think that's Jeffries either. Probably Berger as Adam suggested.

I would say the description is accurate at least, in saying it's a very scarce postcard.

More interesting to me then another shot of Johnson or Jeffries. Looks like 2 of Jeffries sparring partners out for a run. Nice to see Armstrong in a photograph, without being in a back row, separated from everybody else.

Another one with Armstrong in the back:

Big Bill Tate got better treatment in the Dempsey camp:

As did George Godfrey:

Another shot with poor Bob stuck in the back. He even had to stand behind the guy with the fake Choynski head.

Another one.

Just a thought here but I am about 6'4" in shoes and I am always stuck in the back in group photos. Armstrong was my height; all of the other boxers in these photos except Berger were shorter than him. We might be reading too much into this...

Dave, on the first one I posted, I just noticed that the guy on the far right who is slouching looks like Jim Corbett. What do you think?

When I first looked at it, I assumed it was Jeffries trainer. Giving away his height with the slouch, on 2nd look I'd say it's definitely Corbett.

Choynski is obviously in there to.

Sadly, I don't think we are.

Especially when you look at the Sullivan testimonial photo. A lot of gentleman there, who didn't have a great history with African-Americans.

If anyone has postcards they want to sell or trade that have Farmer Burns in them I would be interested.

Exhibitman 06-13-2014 12:24 PM

I guess that answers my question about who Farmer Burns was...
