An autograph you admire as art?

We all know whose signatures suck, but how about the ones that are so aesthetically pleasing that every time you look at it you are happy to have it. From my collection I nominate Max Baer:

I've always loved Duffy Lewis' autograph:

Gene Lillard

Was going to say Lillard. It is art in the most literal sense. No autograph collection is complete without one IMO.

This one is probably the most "artistic" in my collection:

In general though, I love the classic signature of John Hancock.

Lou Gehrig is who came to my mind.

Sometimes a signer adds a bit of art to his signature:

But for me, the homespun handwriting of a self-educated Kentuckian is the most beautiful:

Obviously a lot of association of this signature with the artwork.

I would have to agree that Walt Disney is hands down my favorite, but a close second is the Babe....

Always been a fan of Richard Petty's signature.

Some real beauties in the posts above!
I am not an autograph collector by rule, but I saw a postcard of Charlie Gehringer that called out to me.
He has a great artful signature!

I don't have a scan of the postcard, but knowing this group, I will bet someone has a Gehringer handy:D

This would also display as fine art IMO.

I would have a lot of questions before I would qualify that as art.

I would sure hang it with my art if someone gave it to me.....:)

Rube Marquard (we've all seen it) had a nice 'graph!

Andrew,
Here is an earlier vintage signed album page of Rube Marquard as well as a 1934 signed GPC.

At this point "Rube" hadn't become what almost appears to be "Rubell" which you see in examples of his autograph from mid 1940's and beyond.

7nohitter 12-25-2014 09:41 AM

Thanks for those examples Scott!

A few I like:
Bill McGowan and Larry French.
Plus obscure guys like Con Dempsey, Rankin Johnson, and Eddie Lukon. Mike Garbark's sig might not be a work of art, but his cursive is pretty much textbook-perfect!
