Happy 90th Birthday to Yogi Berra
3 Attachment(s)
I just wanted to call attention to the 90th birthday of one of America's treasures. Bill James calls him the best catcher ever, and the rings he's earned arguably make him baseball's greatest winner. If that's not enough to make him a beloved sports icon, his warm and engaging personality, his sharp wit and — and perhaps unintentionally — his remarkably philosophical insights have earned him a place in the hearts of baseball fans. Let's see some Yogi memorabilia. And let's hear your favorite Yogi-isms. Happy birthday Yogi!

Happy Birthday, Yogi.
He's not technically pre-war but he is about as close as we are getting nowadays, with respect to living players. (I know there are some players still around from pre-war, but not too many) And as for Yogi-isms, I have used the term "deja vu all over again" more than once. |

Happy B-day...gotta think he'll be out of the picture very soon.

Happy Birthday Yogi! Yogi was a very good out of the strike zone (badball) hitter. I remember getting his autograph as a kid maybe in the late 80's or early 90's and my dad decided to rustle his feathers about the infamous plate appearance with Jackie Robinson and just like that he stopped what he was doing and shouted "hes was out". Just like that

His "rookie" managerial card. Technically, still bracketed within his playing career, as he appeared in 4 games in 1965 (with the Mets). Happy birthday, to Casey's "Man!"

According to the article below, a petition has been started to generate support for award of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Yogi Berra. Previous recipients of the medal include Stan Musial, Ernie Banks, Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio.
One thing some people may not be aware of, is that Yogi served as a gunner's mate in the US Navy in World War II, and was on one of the ships involved in the landings at Normandy on June 6, 1944 (D-Day). There's a link in the article where you can go to the petition and sign it. I've already done so myself. Steve http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-...for-yogi-berra |
