1 Attachment(s)
I Thought About this Little Project after I Purchased this Card of the
"BiG SiX" a couple of Years ago from another Board Member.
We often have threads about “Guessin the Grade of a Card?”

Well I thought it would be a bit more Interestin
if ALL of the TPG’s were involved... Wit the Same Card!

The Details…
It was Originally in a BVG Holder.
At the time I was sending in an Order to PSA, but knew eventually wanted
This Card of Mr. Mathewson To End uP iN aN SGC Holder!
So... Wanting to see what PSA Thought about the Card,
I Sent’em in fir their Opinion…
and Then Recently… Finalizing my little Project by Havin SGC Holder'em...

It’s Pretty simple, Give a “Good Look MaTTy’s E95 Card”
& let us All know What Ya THiNK the Grader’s Thought of it!?

Just to keep it Straight, Please Answer in This Order:

BVG
PSA
&
SGC

OKaY, Let’er Rip Gents…

You too JoAnne, Love ta here from ya :)
“it’s Been to Long & Your Wisdom is Requested…  ”
*And of Course… Any of the other Ladies who MiGHT want to Contribute!!!

THiS Would Be a Good Time Fir ALL You Lurker’s Ta Chime on in & punch Your Net54 Ticket…
The More Merrier!

I’ll give it a Day Or 2 Before I Show the Original Flips.
Some of You MiGHT Just Be Surprised!?!?

Was the card cracked out and submitted raw each time, or was it reviewed while still in the previous holder?

Do you put extra effort into typing like that?

h2oya311 02-22-2016 12:23 PM

Always hard to read, but he makes this board interesting, and you always know when good 'ol irishdenny has made a post!

Although I know I'm wrong since you said I might be surprised by the results (my answers are in the order I would expect to see them in), I'm gonna go with:

BVG 3.5
PSA 2.5
SGC 30

bnorth 02-22-2016 12:34 PM

BVG 5
PSA 5
SGC 3

If sent in raw.

BVG 5
PSA 4
SGC 3

If sent in while still in previous slab.

pherbener 02-22-2016 12:37 PM

I'm thinkin there's a light crease through the bottom right.

BVG 3
PSA 2.5
SGC 3

mybuddyinc 02-22-2016 12:40 PM

Personally, I love Denny's writing skills, makes my day reading them, aye !!! :)

Sadly :(, I'm going with a slow and steady grade decent.

B - 5
P - 4
S - 3

Fun, fun, Scott

I've always enjoyed his writing. I try to look for a pattern - why some letters are capitalized... like the Syd Fynch SI article. There must be a hidden message in there somewhere, right?

I'm guessing a constant grade -

B 4.5
P 4
S 50

slinger23 02-22-2016 01:56 PM

Bvg 2.5
psa 2
sgc 1.5

1880nonsports 02-22-2016 02:07 PM

well

bvg 4
psa 4.5
sgc 35

in regard to the big three:

they do a decent job
anything can happen on any given day with regard to a grade or authenticity
missed and imagined faults abound in all
as they all use slightly different parameters to grade each TPG's grade reflects an independent thought rather than a collective and reciprocal classification between grading companies. They are NOT equal with regard to their opinions, service, and marketability nor are similar grades equal between the tpg's.

JustinD 02-22-2016 06:56 PM

I am surprised at how many responses are thinking the BVG grade is so much easier than PSA.

In my experience BVG is much stricter on prewar than PSA or SGC. So much so that I jump them a minimum of a half grade in my head on anything pre 45'.

Waiting for Denny to see if it stands true. ;)

Thank You Kindly Dean!
I've Always Love Cards that seem ta Look so Good,
And yet have a touch of a Flaw that takes away from the technical Grade.
Outside of paper loss or a crease, Unless it's on the Back.

Mr. Mathewson has always been an intriguing Historical Person to me.
As I know there are many of us who think so!

This E95 is a Beauty in my mind!
Even wit, Dare I Say the word..."Crease" :)

This Card of Matty's is a Brilliant one...
And a Fir Sure a Keeper!

So, Thanks Again Dean!!!

Ohhh... I would Like to Apologize ta those few who have a "Hard time"
wit reading my posts.
I've been comin here fir a bit over 15 years
& it seems that my personal writin behavior has sparked
this opinion.
I'm talkin about the Abstract way that I've writin fir the past couple of years,
In which I've since abandoned :)
I Actually never thought it would even be noticed...

Although I am a bit taken back a bit by ya not bein able to read my initial post here!? Thus, the Apology & a Vow ta do bettar! ;)

Anyways... fir those of You who would still like ta Give Your Professional Opinion on Mr. Mathewson's E95 TPG's Finding's...
Have at it!

I will be Postin the Flips in the Nearest Future :D
Tanite Some Time!

As Always my Friends...

I Give You Matty's SGC's Finish'd Home!
In All His Splendor...
I do Believe that SGC Got'em Right!
I was Hoping fir a 40/3, But it's the Card that I wanted Slab'd,
Not the Grade!

irishdenny 02-24-2016 10:48 PM

And the PSA Shock'r!!!

As I mention'd earlier...
I received Matty in a BGS Holder!

It was PSA's Opinion that Blew my Mind!
In my past Experience's wit PSA, Big Six is Easily a "3"!
Super Corner's, No Papar Loss & Crisp Registration!!!

Anyone Else Care ta Share Their Experience wit TPG's work!?

Ohhh, And fir what it's worth...
Andy(Slinger23) Came Real Close ta Nailin'em!!!

He Just had PSA & SGC's Grade's Flip'd(No Pun Intend'd  )

So Brag Away Lad...
This is Your "Net54 15 Minute's Spot Light!"

GasHouseGang 02-25-2016 12:33 AM

Those all are surprising grades to me. I've seen cards with paper loss get higher grades than that. Sometimes the grading companies can be exceptionally harsh. Thanks for conducting this test and for letting us participate in the process.

JustinD 02-25-2016 05:07 AM

I would have happily bought that card and I was proven wrong this time on BVG, but I still believe they are more strict on prewar than the others.

There must be something in person I just am not seeing in the scans as that 1.5 seems way low without paper loss on that card!

iowadoc77 02-25-2016 05:14 AM

buy the card

There has rarely been a better example of buy the card not the holder.
That's a beaut Clark! Its a beaut!
Great card

Great card

I bought the card and not the holder. In fact this one has never been graded. I don't plan to have it graded three times, but your speculation might be interesting.

Leon 02-25-2016 08:05 AM

I would guess a 3-4 on that Matty card....the top right corner looks to have a wee bit of creasing and/or paper loss...
Great looking card!!

Anyone else (in their head) read IrishDenny's posts in an Irish accent? Or is it just me? haha

slinger23 02-25-2016 09:04 AM

Awesome!!!

You have a great looking Matty that is definitely better than the grade. It sure did have quite a journey! Thanks for sharing and letting us take part in the grading aspect.

Not that he wasn't Magical Already...
After All... He is Mr. Luckey :)

Sir Frank,

Your Matty has a Wonderfully Colorful Background
"That is quite crisp in nature..."
Ya don't See them Very Often, He even has the alluring Purple
That Surround His Shoulder's ~ Certainly a Keeper!

*** Okay, Sooo...
"ARE THERE REALLY ONLY THE FEW OF US THAT ARE BLOWN AWAY BY PSA's 1.5 GRADE fir the Christian Gentleman!?"

Awww JUSTIN,

No kind Sir, What You See is what is there!
There's Not even any Spidering...
The Indent to the Left of Matty's Head,
And the Crease to the Bottom Front Right Side
That Doesn't Even Go Thru to the Back!

"That's iT!!!"

Shall I Send'em Back ta PSA? Maybe?
However, If I Do... I'll eventually have ta Re Submit'em Back ta SGC!
As this is were my Collection Resides...
Maybe I'll even get the warranted bump that Sum of us see's fit...
