Show your RAW cards

It seems like more and more threads/discussions are centered around TPG grades (BTW, I don't mind this - everyone has their own focus and interests). I just happen to LOVE raw cards. My sets are in binders while my player sets are in sleeves/top loaders. I love to have the ability to touch and hold a card. I look forward to replies from fellow raw card collectors and see your favorite cards in their "natural state". I will kick things off with my Aaron RC.

I haven't sent any of my cards in to be graded yet, but I will at some point.

I have posted some of these before, which likely have been seen more than a few times, but I'll post them again for your thread and for those that haven't seen them before?

Nice cards Irv. I am almost at the half-way point in my low-number 1952 set. Love the '52's.

Thanks!

I have slowly being picking away with cards here and there, (mostly low numbers as well) but lately I've wandered trying to purchase other popular players cards.

There are a few I really want, like a Spahn, Ashburn and Snider, to name a few, but I haven't had much luck, due to lack of focus, funds and affordability. (Few more pics)

Ungraded

Ungraded cards are not "raw". That seems like a negative term. They are cards in their natural state, as intended, instead of entombed in plastic like some kind of mummy

Gawking at those 52's; they're beautiful. Especially that #311!

Agreed Al. I actually used "natural state" at the end of my first post. I should've used that throughout the post.

I did not know that. Thought, like has been mentioned, just ungraded.

Thanks:)

Thanks. :)

It's unfortunate, as the Mantle has nice colors, that the lower right corner has paper loss. :(

There is also a bend, not a full crease on the right side of Mick's face. With those 2 things, it is unfortunately my worst conditioned card.

jchcollins 05-14-2016 10:31 AM

Hey you've got a '52 Mantle. That's more than most of us can say!!

I don't mind the term "raw" cards, in fact it's really nice to see this. Back when I first started collecting older cards in the 1980's this was pretty much the only way they came, and back then there was no tremendous focus on ultra high-grade. Here are scans of a few of my favorites to get started. Will try to add a few more later in the day. Great topic! :)

Oh, I hear you. I am very grateful/happy for sure! It's just the fact, out of all the cards I received from my Father, my Mantle had to be the worst, sadly.

Nice cards!

When I received my cards, 20-25 yrs ago, they were in a lidded cardboard box laid on their side with nothing protecting them from above.
They were located in a spot, where, imo, they could have very easily been damaged if someone had of set something heavy on top of them.

Needless to say, currently, they are as raw as they are ever going to get again!

Vintagevault13 05-14-2016 11:26 AM

My lone Mantle, except for the one in my 1965 set.

Nice cards. Love the 55 Bowman Mays and Feller.

irv 05-14-2016 07:55 PM

Finally got around to taking my Mantle and Mays out of those hated cubes.

I was going to order, (and still may?) some Pro Mold vintage holders, but until then, everything bad I heard about those cubes finally got to me. ;)

Cards look much better now imo when I scan them.

Al, unfortunately, it seems that the profit motive assumed control of the hobby a long time ago, and probably most of those engaged in it now are more motivated by security concerns than actual love of the ephemera itself. This seems to drive terminology, so that unentombed cards are viewed with suspicion and even disdain by many. I think, if old cardboard lovers dominated the hobby, plastic coated cards would have a pejorative term slapped on them: maybe something borrowed from current popular culture - scary and horrifying - like "zombiefied cards?" Just a thought.;)

Nice collection of pitchers. Love the 52 Spahn. One of the most underrated pitchers in history IMHO. Thanks for posting.

S_GERACE 05-29-2016 06:46 AM

Great group of hurlers! I agree with Ed, Spahn has 363 wins, by far the most by any post war era pitcher and the most by any southpaw ever. He also won 20 or more games 13 times. You'll NEVER see that repeated in the modern game.
