Meeting a legend, well, to me.
 

I had the honor of meeting Jim Mains, son of J.R. Mains and grandson of Willard Mains. I was in awe of the history this man has been a part of. My 3 Mains bats went home for his collection to be given to his grandchildren. This is why I collected.

Cool. Can you elaborate about it? The meeting, your bats, etc.

I had 3 W.E. Mains bats just sitting around, decided they needed to be back in the family. Jim lives about an hour from me, so I tracked him down, talked for a bit about his baseball collection of family thing he is putting together for his grandkids. He manages a golf course and has ties to a great ski resort, so if anyone wants a great vacation in Maine anytime of year or would like to add to his collection, he would be more than happy to be a great host.

He told me of the story of his wife framing some Beaneaters photos that didn't fit the frames, so she cut the bottom off of the pictures. Many of the newsclippings were ruined do to a flood, but I was invited over to have a few beers and see the remaining stuff in the future.

Rawn, last Memorial Day I was in the Berkshires MA, and saw a Mains bat in an antique store on Rt 7, just south of Williamstown. I remember it well because it was nice, the only sports antique in the store, and the guy seemed to know he had something of value because he was asking $2,500.

How about 7% of that for all 3? He is a great guy to talk to and will hope to post some pictures when I get invited back over.
