How accurate is this guide?

Hey all - new to the forums, and to collecting the T206 as well, mostly been lurking and soaking up knowledge on these forums since I found the site.

...used to have thousands of cards as a kid in the early 90s, but my interest back then was the old stuff even though my parents never could afford to get me any, other than a few 1950s commons. I remember I had a magazine or book that had a picture of the Honus Wagner card that I cut out, roughed up to make it look old and stuck in a screw down case :p

ANYWAY...on to my point, I've been selectively buying stuff that appeals to me when the price is right, and I've been using this site to check prices. Some seem remarkably low - especially for the ungraded variety which I'm going after.... good reference to use, better out there? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi John,

Your Wagner story does not inspire a lot of trust but I'll chalk it up to youthful indiscretion. I am the owner/creater of T206 Insider. If you have any problems with the Price Check feature please shoot me a PM and explain why. I'll be happy to respond.

Best,

It was a simple humorous story from my youth when I was about about 6 or 7 years old designed to spark up conversation, which apparently was lost somewhere through the impersonal text communication...not sure how to take your "trust" comment.

As far as the site, what peaked my curiosity is seeing some of the low prices listed, and then almost all examples I saw in sold sales went for more than double that. In other collecting circles I'm involved in there's old outdated sources of info still around on the net, just wanted to be sure that wasn't the case here. Thanks for your reply

Hi John,

I actively monitor prices and update the Price Check tool every few months as warranted. Setting prices for the “not professionally graded” category of cards is challenging due to differences in grading standards applied by individual collector/dealers. It’s probably inevitable that prices realized in the market for such “ungraded” cards will often stray significantly from prices outputted by the tool. Thanks.

Scot, it would be interesting to see the price changes, up or down, from your site. If a compiled list would be too much trouble then may be in bold, red or green in your Price Check. :)

Thanks for the suggestion Bruce. I will think about how to document price changes. Occasionally I provide an update note on the home page, but I realize that isn't ideal.
