Closing Tonight - Love of the Game Spring Premier Auction

Hi All:

Hope everyone is doing well.

Just a reminder that the Love of the Game Spring Auction is closing tonight. Extended bidding begins at 9pm EDT, and the Double OT begins at 1AM.

Lots of great items included in this auction, but I did want to draw people's attention to the outstanding signed Exhibit cards we are offering, as it seems like there are still a lot of affordable but scarce ones there. I do love those beautiful old fountain pen signatures!

Also, we've got a 520-card T206 set and a nearly complete T205 Master Set in this one, along with several other great prewar sets.

And of course, we're fully-loaded with prewar HOFers and memorabilia.

If you've got some time, please do check it out: https://bid.loveofthegameauctions.com/Lots/Gallery

Thanks, and good luck to all who are bidding or consigning.

Best,
-Al

Al Crisafulli and his fantastic auction offerings are the reason I haven't remodeled my kitchen yet.

Funny you should say that. I gave Al a 1915 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson to auction several years back and used the proceeds to pay for a sorely needed kitchen renovation. Never mind the fact that the same card today would pay for adding a new wing to the house, the new kitchen is swell and has been a grand place to endure the pandemic. My wife loves Joe Jackson.

Ha. I consigned a nice Gehrig card to Al a while back explicitly to redo our kitchen. I wonder how many kitchens Al has paid for?

I encourage everyone in the Net54 community to consider a kitchen renovation before our Summer, 2022 Premier Auction. :)

It could be "Al the Kitchen" Crisafulli! His wife might have an issue with something like "Al the Bedroom" Crisafulli. Hope I don't get slapped off stage!
.

Wanaselja 04-02-2022 02:29 PM

I plan on bidding my way to the poor house tonight.

I like it Leon, Al "The Kitchen" Crisafulli, saving or dooming marriages based on his pre-war auction results.

What an amazing nickname. It must stick. We must make it stick.

Lol! Definitely lots of nice items! I haven’t won anything from LOTG in a long time but hopefully I’ll change that tonight.🙂

Finally got my T205 Walter Johnson, Al!

I was fortunate enough to add these two e92 Dockmans to my collection. I understand this is a small set and doesn't carry the same cache' as some other sets of this period but man, they are not easy to find in decent condition as the hobby may think.

Congrats to everyone who was able to add to their collections!

LEHR 04-03-2022 09:12 AM

I managed to hang on and win three of the four lots I wanted the most, so it was a good night/morning.:)

You pick up any of the photos for your new folders? I picked up the bugs Raymond photo used for the turkey. Bugs is a VERY tough type 1 photo- not many and DEF not many good ones.

Stick stick Al stick.

[The foregoing comment will be incomprehensible to many but Al will get it. Harkens back to a mystery from an old LOTG auction].

Terrific Bugs Raymond photo, Ben. Had my eye on it. Encapsulates the excellence and the tragedy of that tortured man.

Ben, that’s a great photo of Bugs!
Yeah, I managed to snag the Conlon photos of Red Kleinow and Harry Krause, plus the 1937 signed photo of Lloyd Waner.

Exhibitman 04-03-2022 10:58 AM

Great stuff, guys!

riggs336 04-03-2022 11:09 AM

Super auction, Al. I only managed to snare one of the many snazzy Eddie Collins items, but I really enjoyed this one.

JimC 04-03-2022 11:54 AM

Great auction again, Al.

investinrookies 04-03-2022 06:29 PM

the gehrig and Ruths exhibits did well.

DeanH3 04-03-2022 06:55 PM

The E93 Cobb PSA 2 fetched a strong price as well.

Exhibitman 04-03-2022 07:17 PM

So, where's my stuff? :D

Eric72 04-03-2022 08:20 PM

One of my bids held up 'til the end! :)

Picked up a T206 HOFer for (in my opinion) a reasonable price.

I was definitely shocked by how high the 1928 Exhibits Ruth went. I think it's safe to say that all Exhibits are no longer under the radar anymore.

Yoda 04-04-2022 09:18 AM

Managed to snag a trifecta of the 3 Eddie Collins T213 Coupon cards. Happy.

Carter08 04-04-2022 09:30 AM

Picked up a Goudey Ott and an e121 Speaker. An e121 Hornsby went beyond my means though. Great auction.

I noticed that as well. My semi-ugly 3 is looking good.

Ruth and Gehrig have been 'out' for a while. What is interesting to me is the strong prices on the next tiers of HOFers.

PC Backs:
--Cobb SGC 5.5 $4,500
--Foxx (RC) PSA 2 $5,100
--Johnson SGC 4 $1,560; red tint SGC 3 $1,560
--Hornsby SGC 5 $900, SGC 4 $570
--Waner SGC 6 $1,140
--4 on 1 w/Vance and O'Doul raw and lower grade $900

1921 Collins PSA 5 $390
1921 Johnson SGC 5 $1,920

1922 Eastern Exhibits:
PSA 5:
--Johnson $2,280
--Cobb $3,300
--Alexander $1200
--Heilmann $510
PSA 5.5
--Speaker $480
--Collins $390
PSA 6
--Hornsby $2,160

1925 Johnson PSA 4 $1,800
1925 Speaker PSA 6 $960

1927
--Johnson PSA 4 $960
--Collins PSA 5.5 $600
--Speaker PSA 3.5 $510

1929-30 4-on-1 Ruth/Gehrig SGC 5 $10,200

Basically, any Cobb is now a four-figure card and Johnson is getting there. The other strong HOFers have been creeping up as well. I'd like to see what some of the other RCs and scarcer cards go for in this market.

On the postwar side, the Jackie Robinson thing continues with an SGC 5 getting $660. Robinson was a $50-$75 card several years ago.

Touch'EmAll 04-04-2022 11:13 AM

Many of the big name 1920's Exhibits have pops of less than 20 in all grades. And when you get to the mid-grades EX ish and up, the pops are miniscule. Good to see strong prices.

tbob 04-04-2022 11:24 AM

Another great auction Al as I manged to grab 2 E136 Home Run Kisses and a D310 and get close to completing both sets.

Yeah, I was very pleased to see the Jackie Robinson SGC 5 go so high, as I consigned it, along with the SGC 5 Mays Portrait, and the SGC 6.5 Mantle Batting "CK" not connected. I thought that Mays would fetch $120, but it went for $180. Very pleased to work with Al and Andrew over at LOTG. They do a fantastic job!!

I was surprised by that Hornsby price. A lot higher than I would have guessed.

Noticed that as well which should only drive prices higher. In the big picture of things the Ruth and Gehrig are very hard to find and are top tier early cards

Exhibits

I picked up a number of these. Most excited with the Eastern Exhibit Hornsby though I know I overpaid a bit. Excited to finally pick up a 1921 Johnson ... love the registration of the front photo ... though I always forget that with SGC critical to check the back. In this case looks like I missed a MK. Oh well.

Anyway, given the low pops, the quality of photography, and lack of mainstream mid to late 20s issues I see a lot of upside. I just hope the broader move waits until I complete my eastern exhibits set :-)

There should be a direct PayPal link in your invoice.
