Nice stuff, also check out SCP too!!!!

Peter_Spaeth 11-15-2023 12:53 PM

13 red Cobbs if I counted correctly. That may be a record? Not sure if that's a good or bad sign.

mrreality68 11-15-2023 12:54 PM

Definitely a wow auction as always

But this one is really really strong one

I counted nine Green ones. Seems like every auction has a zillion Cobb portraits now.

I'm not sure how I would feel if I were a consignor, I guess I'd worry a bit about cannibalization, but maybe the demand just overrides that.

Bobbycee 11-15-2023 01:44 PM

I wouldn't be happy as a consignor of a red Cobb in this auction, especially if there were multiple cards of the same grade. As a consignor, you can always ask them how many red Cobbs are in their upcoming auction and decide for your self to wait until their next auction, if you want less competition.

Peter, this follows the pattern on other social media card selling sites. Many are trying to sell their T206 Cobb, low grade, high grade, whatever.

feel like a kid in a candy store!

MVSNYC 11-15-2023 02:36 PM

Incredible offering, congrats Brian & team!

This piece is awesome! (Oh, and yes, it's mine ;) ...)

Wow ! Might be better than their major springtime auction. We will sure get a feel for the market after this goes down. Lots of folks antsy to cash out now, thinking market may drop further in the next year or so.

Republicaninmass 11-15-2023 02:52 PM

Let's us know which are yours and your brothers consignments please!

"well made" bids appreciated "Champs"

molenick 11-15-2023 03:09 PM

I am both disappointed and relieved that aside from Ruth and Dunn, the Baltimore News cards are not being offered individually. Disappointed because that means I won't be able to win one...and relieved because I will save money not winning one.

MVSNYC 11-15-2023 03:31 PM

IMO, all of the Baltimore News cards should've been individual lots.

Second recent auction with a bunch of Spotted Tie N172’s. That’s low key noteworthy

Now we just need to find 11 more of us and we can go in on the group.

Maybe they should offer them both ways

Too soon?

Went to an REA event tonight at the Babe Ruth museum; saw Brian, Matt, a few other REA and Net54 guys. Very cool event. They had the BN Ruth displayed, along with the BNs others in this auction and blue variations, including a second Ruth

Casey2296 11-15-2023 08:16 PM

Very cool Ryan, thanks for posting.

Wow, so about $25 million sitting there, give or take a few million?

h2oya311 11-16-2023 12:43 AM

Ryan, that’s awesome! Will they be auctioning the Blue Ruth at a future time? Not that I’m in the market for either, barring an unexpected lottery windfall (which is impossible, since I don’t play the lottery).

REA Fultz autograph

2 Attachment(s)
The REA auction has an 1899 David Fultz autograph in a book he presented as a Christmas present. Remarkably, I bought the exact same book with Fultz autograph from a board member a few years ago. I don't have a reason to doubt either one but what are the chances that he gave the exact same book to the same person in 1899? Mine is the second photo.

BuzzD 11-16-2023 04:49 AM

Fultz

Turns out that the books are a 2 volume set and Fultz gifted both to the same friend!

Aquarian Sports Cards 11-16-2023 06:11 AM

The blue 2.5 is way nicer than the red 3.

Rhotchkiss 11-16-2023 06:35 AM

I don’t think there are plans to auction the blue.

Scott, I agree that the grades on the two cards appear to be reversed! That said, they are both amazing and grade in a card like this is irrelevant. It’s real and it’s awesome

Of course you must realize that it now incumbent upon you to reunite them!

Good Luck! ;)

bks14sr 11-16-2023 07:31 AM

This auction is stacked with huge cards. Of course, I finally choose to consign and my cards are dwarfed relative to others in this. Nerve racking

megalimey 11-16-2023 07:38 AM

rejected

meanwhile they rejected my 879 1987 Topps Barry Bonds RC cards
most PSA Graded 8 and 9 with seven TENS:eek:

I don't think that will prove to be true. I have consigned two lots in this auction. Neither are particularly rare. But this auction will get plenty of attention and plenty of bidders - that I'm sure

maniac_73 11-16-2023 09:40 AM

My Friend is bidding on the Ruth, I need to live vicariously through him lol

Yoda 11-16-2023 11:57 AM

REA has a habit of listing multiples of top cards in their auctions. Back in the 90's when the discovery of 5 Cobb backed red portraits was consigned, they auctioned off all of them rather than spread them out over several auctions. I believe that was Rob Lifson's selling philosophy and presume the consignor had no objections.

JUrsaner 11-16-2023 04:56 PM

I consigned 4x items into this year's Fall auction... fun if any wind up being won by Net54 members!

My single weak consignment has already gotten four bids, so I am happy.

There are some extraordinary cards in this auction. I have my eye on one or two I would like to own but doubt I will bid enough to win them.

Mike, I agree, I would have liked to go after one of the 1914s.

Bobbycee 11-17-2023 07:42 AM

Good luck with your listings. I have a nice consignment of 176 autographed cards-mostly Baseball & full of Hall of Famers, spanning1952 Bowman to '78 Topps:

I was there as well. Good times.

Ben Yourg 11-19-2023 06:57 AM

Will the winner,of the 1914 Ruth have to also pay REA a 20%
auction fee? Or,a special lower fee due to such a large price?

Rhotchkiss 11-19-2023 07:02 AM

The winner always pays the 20% BP. It’s just part of the purchase price. The question is how much if the BP will the consignor get - with the BN Ruth, I expect it’s much more than your average consignment

For sure agree. I would guess the consigner gets a bite of that BP apple by way of 5-10% extra on top of the price. That’s a min I would have negotiated with the AH responsible for this historic card.

Hi John, I hope you are well.

I bought 2 of the 5 Cobb backs in that auction. If memory serves me correctly that auction was almost at the same time as the Barry Halper auction and the Halper sale had a 1914 Baltimore News Ruth and it sold for $40k. It was not in a slab but I recall it was in decent condition as far as the condition of known cards from that issue.

orioles70 11-23-2023 10:47 AM

Looking back 15 years, $517,000 for the Ruth was a bargain in that 2008 REA auction.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...48a7af7875.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...87d51b8812.jpg
