E95 Cobb - Opinions?

Posted By: <b>Patrick McMenemy</b><p>The first thing that I noticed is the numerous horizontal creases. If I were a betting man, I would guess that this card had been peeled out of a scrap book. The creases look to be ones that would result when pressure from pulling created these "compression" creases. I would definitely request a scan of the back of the card, and I would not be surprised to learn that the card is rebacked or still attached to remnants of the scrapbook. Just my opinion from a poor scan.

Posted By: <b>runscott</b><p>I'll add just one thing: the type of creasing you see here is exactly what you see when someone creates a fake using two layers (thin cardboard plus paper image) and then "adds" aging creases.<BR><BR>I believe this is a hand-made forgery rather than a reprint.

Posted By: <b>warshawlaw</b><p>I can't tell from the scan whether the card is authentic. It may be an enhanced scan; I got a T card once that had been enhanced to brighten up the image for ebay. The real item was darker looking because of wear. The enhancing gives off the "glow" effect that makes the card look fake. <BR><BR>Two things I can say: (1) if he is faking the card, he sure set a high reserve for a fake--sort of goes against the grain of the usual scammers, and (2) the card isn't even close to ex, so I'd bypass it and bid on another one w/a better scan and more accurate seller.

Posted By: <b>fkw</b><p>The back of card shows it is an obvious reprint, mostlikely homemade like runscott said. Look at the "a" "e", etc. they all have holes that are solid. Authentic E95's are much clearer and print is not so bold on back, and back should be printed in solid black ink. He has relisted it again #2789042322. Frank

The borders all the way around are just too even (trimmed?) and the corners are far too sharp when compared to the staining and creasing on the rest of the card. I would pass this Cobb up even if it was authentic, just based on the fact that it has the appearance of an altered card.<BR><BR>Regards,<BR> Adam
