Your'e trading a Ruth, a Johnson, and some other stuff for a Cracker Jack Marquard?"<br /><br />"Mark--you'd have to SEE the cards to understand their true worth..."<br /><br />This here card has a GREAT HISTORY. It's the scarcest Ruth in the '35 Goudey set.. Anyway, see those few lines just above the center back? There's a big "1934" (incorrect) in pencil, real deep, there, which I erased as well as I can. The story-- I can't remember anymore. All I know is, for the longest time, whenever I borrowed $300 from a friend, I would send him this card. When I repaid it, he would send it back. Once I noticed that he hadn't even taken the card out of its rappings! So after that, I just borrowed $300, and the card stayed home.<br />It has great sentimental value...<br />Here are my ex-beaters! A very kind lurker sold the card to me along with a number other cards I needed/wanted. I've had the card in possession for about a week. No way I am about to part with any time in the foreseable future.<br /><br />Jay<br><br>I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. It is in such bad shape that it makes Dave's Parent example look like it came right off the presses. I love this card. I carry it with me in my wallet at all times. It makes for a very interesting conversation piece. I can always show it as an example of what can happen to a card if you do not take care of it, and if it were mint it would be priceless, but as is it's worth a few bucks. <br />

The card has an almost uniform brownness to it. I'm selling it now that I bought a nicer 1933 Goudey, in VG-EX condition.

Posted By: <b>Jeff S</b><p>Several board members have cards that could seriously compete with all that's posted here--I know because I sold the cards to them!<br /><br />(I don't want to brag, but this is my territory we're treading upon here--I've even got Andy B's old N172 Mack, which I'll post here someday.)<br /><br />I just went through my website last week deleting files with abandon, so I couldn't find much, but here's something, anyway...<br /><br /><img src="http://www.angelfire.com/nb/jms/33g_thorpe_small.JPG"><br /><br />Unfortunately I can't find a scan of a '57 Mantle I gave away a few years ago -- it came from the scrap heap of the '57 uncut sheet find maybe five years ago, but this Mantle was maybe 60% intact, with a bonus 10-20% of some other card. Healthily stained, of course, with some scuffing and creasing for good measure. I was tempted to write on it, if only to go for the cycle.
