Help identifying a Delehanty Brother and Team Photo

Posted By: Rhys
I recently picked up this photo on ebay and it is a circa 1903 or so minor league all star photo of some kind. All the players are named on the back and one of them is a Delhanty brother, and the other names I do not recognize off hand. The hats, sweaters, and uniforms are all different, and the only jersey I can read is for "Raleigh". There are players with all different hats but some say B, some say L, and some say F. The players names are somewhat hard to read based on the handwriting but their names appear to be as follows :

Top Row: Shindel, Mealy, Boland, Rodgers, Cpngalton, Finn (manager), McDonald, Bannister, McRaithlin

Middle: Sullivan, Smith, Ahearn, Haley, Delahanty, Miller, White, Morghan, Cranker

Bottom: Eastman, Brennan, Mulvey, Hoover, Griffith

Any help on an idea of the league, or who any of these other players are would be much appreciated. I have taken pictures of the team, the Delehanty brother, and the guy with the readable Raleigh jersey.

Thanks,

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Hmmm....The guy wearing the "B" uniform kind of throws this picture off as being a league all star game photo. Raleigh was in the North Carolina league in 1902 which also included the Durham Bulls and you can see one of the guys in the photo appears to have a Detroit tigers like "D" on his uniform which is the same "D" the Bulls used. If perhaps this photo is from 1901 Raleigh was in the Virginia - North Carolina League which included Danville which could account for the "D" and I suppose the B could be for either the Portsmouth Browns, or the Richmond Bluebirds.

Your best bet is to look through old Spalding guides....my collection only goes back to the teens so I can't help you there, but I bet somebody here has a 1903 Spalding guide that could probably identify the league. A lot of the guys you have listed on there I believe played in the Majors so this is probably a high minor league.
