St. Louis Nadja's

Posted By: Bruce MacPherson
Does anyone know the story behind the St. Louis Nadja cards. It seemed that when I got into prewar collecting several years ago, these cards were at a premium. Now these cards appear frequently on ebay at relatively low prices considering this recent caramel craze. They seem to greatly outnumber the non-St. Louis Nadja's. Lew Lipset seems to have an unlimited supply of the Bresnahan and Wallace cards. (Not that I am complaining since I got mine from him). Just wondering if anyone had insight on why these cards are so "common".

Posted By: Scott Elkins
non - St. Louis Nadjas from what I have seen. Lipset must have made a "find" of these and I know Fristch made at least one "find" of the St. Louis Nadjas. Also, there were a couple of earlier "finds" in the 80's as well. Pete will probably know more about them.

Posted By: Bruce MacPherson
For those interested, I got an email yesterday from Lew Lipset describing the St. Louis "find". Apparantly several years ago he was contacted by someone in Missouri that had about a 1000 T206 and caramel cards to sell. Lew mentioned this to Larry Frisch who then went down to Missouri to purchase the cards. The find consisted of primarily T206 cards and a couple hundred Nadja's (a Missouri company). Lew and Larry split the take. He mentioned that he acquired these cards after his encyclopedia (volume 2) was published so these were not included in that book. Also, as I suspected, he concurred that non-St. Louis Nadja's are significantly more difficult to obtain.
