Posted By: <b>Anson</b><p>Now PSA, SGC, and GAI have registries. I happen to like GAI's idea the best, in that you can still register PSA or SGC cards. SGC and PSA force you to have your items graded by their own graders. While they might think it encourages more crossovers, it does prevent folks from wanting to participate. If you have an SGC card with a print mark, you wouldn't want to crossover to PSA and get qualifier tagged. Additionally, not that it's a huge deal, but you would lose the "first graded" tag to move over to one of the others.<br /><br />While the registry isn't for everyone, it has sparked more interest in the hobby. I just wish that the big three would make it a little more user friendly.

Posted By: <b>will watson</b><p>"SGC and PSA force you to have your items graded by their own graders."<br /><br />....on their own website. you say that like PSA and SGC are in the wrong here. if i ran a grading company, i wouldn't want people to register competitors cards on my website either. not to mention, GAI doesn't have the PSA and SGC cert. # databases, so there's no way to tell whether people actually own the cards or not. what's to stop me from going to Marshall Fogels 52 T set, and lifting his serial numbers and registering them as my own on GAI's site?

Posted By: <b>Anson</b><p>The registries are for the individual collectors anyway. At least that's what I believe in most cases. You can lift reg #'s from Ebay auctions or internet pics.<br /><br />In most cases, these cards are already graded. I don't think too many people would want to register a complete set of PSA cards on GAI. But, you might have a few that aren't of one grading company. So now you have to spend the money to have them regraded, just to have them added?

Posted By: <b>Anson</b><p>To me, not at all. But, you do see a lot of folks that are quite proud of it. I guess they don't realize that there are very few GAI "1st graded" examples where PSA and SGC haven't had several slabbed.<br /><br />Maybe there should be a third-party registry where grading companies didn't play a factor in things.

At present, there are only a dozen baseball collections listed and the majority of them are under 5% completion. Hardly a strong selling point for GAI. Additionally, most of the cards listed are graded by PSA. Advertisement for your competiton is certainly a marketing no-no.<br><br>Frank

SGC and PSA probably both enjoy the free advertising for their products, but down the road, can SGC or PSA ask GAI to remove information from a GAI website or to stop engaging in using their work?
