Question regarding M101-4 and M101-5 sets

The Old Cardboard website explained the checklist numbereing variations, but is there anything else that distinguishes these two sets from one another? Are the player photos the same?

Posted By: <b>Josh K.</b><p>To my knowledge, other than a few minor player changes, the only real difference is date of release. It was once believe that the the m101-5 set came out a year after the m101-4s. I believe that now they are recognized as being released in the same year and that the 101-5s were released first.

Posted By: <b>Todd Schultz</b><p>Both were printed and issued in 1916--most believe m101-5 first, but I remain skeptical of that, as least as to issuance.<br /><br />30 of the 200 cards share the same photo and number, although a few of those have different team or position changes so that you can distinguish.<br /><br />There are a little more than a dozen cards that appear in only m101-5 or m101-4, most notably Jim Thorpe (m101-5) and Ty Cobb (m101-4).<br /><br />There are some cards that carry the back advertisement of only m101-5 or m101-4. Examples would include but are not limited to Holmes to Homes (m101-5), TSN and Herpolsheimer (m101-4).<br /><br />As you noted, the main distinction is found in the numbering. However, there are more than 20 cards that have differences in team, spelling, position or photo from one set to the other.<br /><br /><br />Hope that helps.<br /><br />
