How Can I tell if these cards are vintage?

Posted By: Jen
I am inquiring about some cards that I want to sell on ebay for a friend. He claims to have had them since childhood, when a relative passed them on. I don't want to misrepresent these in the description. Can anyone help me? I have scanned front and back. If you are able to print them, you can get a very good representation of the condition. Thanks in advance for any help!!! Here are the pictures (copy and paste each to your browser, the first is the fronts, and the second the backs). Thanks sooooo much for taking the time to help me!!! The last thing I want to do is misrepresent them. They look old to me, but I'm far from being an expert, and I know there are lots of reprints out there. These all say Dover reprint, but I have no idea what that means or when they were printed. Any and all help appreciated!!!
Jen

How Can I tell if these cards are vintage?

Posted By: Brad Green
These are Dover Reprints of vintage cards. Dover Reprints were printed in the 1970's and 80's. That means that these cards are not vintage. Sorry!

Posted By: Trevor Hocking
Ok first off I think a lot of these posts like "do you think these are real" are from the people trying to make fake cards pass better on ebay. I know this may not be the case with you.

These cards are all fake for sure and I am not going to get into how I can tell becasue I do not want to help anyone who might be trying to make a better fake. By the way most collectors can tell these are fake from the pictures you have shown.

You might want to tell your friend he is trying to get you to sell fake cards.

Trevor

Posted By: Cobby33
Generally, when a card says "reprint" on its back, it is just that.

Glad I could help.

How Can I tell if these cards are vintage?

Posted By: Gilbert Maines
These cards are thirty to thirty five years old. They are copies of older cards made for educational purposes.

The Cracker Jack cards were originally made in the teens, the Hassan card - a little before that, and the Big League was made in the thirties. That is, the originals were made then.

As I indicated, your Dover reprints were made 30 or so years ago.

There are people who collect reprints, but they are worth far less (of course) than the original cards.

How Can I tell if these cards are vintage?

Posted By: Jen
I just wanted to say thanks to all those who responded and gave me the info I need. I returned the cards to my friend and advised him to hold on to them for another 40 years or so!! And to those who thought I am just trying to gather info. to pass off reprints as originals, I'm sorry. You have obviously been ripped off before and are still a little bitter... Quite the contrary, I (obviously) go to great lengths to research my items before selling to avoid that very problem. My reputation as a seller on eBay is far more valuable to me than any baseball card!!!! Anyway, thanks again! Jen

Posted By: leon
I think you took it the right way and not personally. We have had numerous scammers come on our board and try to take advantage of people. We are leery for that reason. From your response we can tell you are probably (see I used probably due to the past) not one of them....take care and come back anytime.....Glad we could help...btw, kids love those reprints.....best regards
