IF T206 Frank Chance Batting were in auction

Posted By: fessgreg
I have a T206 Frank Chance Batting in SGC 96. If it went to auction how much do you think it would go for? Include buyers commission in your prices please.

Posted By: T206Collector
...if you provide a context to your question, i.e., give us some reason why you want to know --- do you have one? Is one coming up for sale somewhere? Are you thinking about forging one out of paper clips and snot?

Generally speaking, that card would be worth just a bit higher than what the second highest bidder was willing to pay for it. It's a one-off type situation, to which anticipating bids is not going to get you the right answer.

North of $8,000, I would guess.

Posted By: fessgreg
I said I have the card. What's with the post about whether I own it our not or about making one out of snot and paper clips. Also, the card is worth more than 12k if other HOF T206's are going for 20k and a Willie Keeler went for 16k a year or two ago. If you think its only worth 12k so be it but I was just trying to conjure up some interesting conversation about T206 HOF cards or T206 commons and their market in general.

Posted By: fessgreg
I've noticed a lot of Harris collection cards have been sold in the past few years. And one is supposedly up for sale in the Mastro auction(the Walter Johnson). Do you think all Harris cards carry a premium vs. others just like it? I not just talking high priced HOF but commons also.

Posted By: jay behrens
I'd be scared to death of Harris card. I've seen a number of them that have obviously been trimmed. Sadly, the registry slabheads could care less about the card instead. It's all about the flip and moving up the list.

Jay

I love pinatas. Posted By: fessgreg
Surprised that some Harris cards are trimmed since the collection is so well known and most are at least 8's. Does someone else care to comment.

Posted By: Brian Weisner

I have owned several dozen Harris cards over the past 10 years, and have seen some that appeared trimmed, but most were over graded in my opinion. I think most "Ole school" collectors consider the Harris tag on the card as negative versus a positive. Besides, I would say 15-20% of the cards have already been reholdered.
Be well Brian

Posted By: MVSNYC
Chance batting is definitely worth less than a Keeler...they are not on the same level, as far as HOFers go. plus, as i mentioned earlier, the batting pose is less desirable then his 2 port cards...

as far as Harris cards, i have owned a few 9's, they get a bad wrap, if you pick up any 10 random T206 cards, the size and centering on all 10 will all be different...these were hand cut 100 years ago guys, let's not forget that.

Posted By: dstudeba
I have never heard that T206s were hand cut. I am only familiar with 1909 frameless back Obaks being handcut from that era.

I would be interested to hear more about this.
