Justin Verlander no hit the Brew Crew with an amazing 12 strike out performance. The Detroit fans, a lively 33k, were as electric as you can imagine. Detroit's defense stepped up when necessary with Magglio making a nice grab in the 7th and a key double play in the 8th. All this despite 30-40 Seaguls on the field that were feasting on a recent outbreak of Moths.<br /><br />Verlander must have been running on adrenaline as the hysteric crowd cheered each pitch in the 9th with at least 3 triple digit fast balls (I noticed one at 101mph!).<br /><br />- First Detroit no-hitter since Jack Morris in '84 (in Chicago vs Sox).<br />- First no-hitter in Detroit since Nolan Ryan in '73.<br />- First no-hitter in Detroit by Detroit pitcher since Virgil Trucks in '52 (he pitched a 2nd no-hitter that same year in NY).<br /><br />The only other no-hitter in Detroit by Detroit pitcher was George Mullin in 1912. There's my bit of pre-war.<br /><br />Great Game !<br /><br />And if you're reading this Keith & Nathan Thompson, your seats went to a good friend of mine & his wife. Another bonus to the victory is that Detroit is now tied with Cleveland for 1st. Hey, it's a long season, we have to enjoy the good times.

Thanks to xmradio i actually listened to the last 2 innings while at work.<br /><br /> The closest ive ever come to seeing a no-hitter was Cole Hamels in the minors when he pitched 6 perfect innings but it was very early in his career and they had him on a strict pitch count.I was disappointed they didnt let him go further as the other team never even came close to a hit and he had 11 K's<br /><br /> One game of note i saw as a kid was a semi-pro game where there were scouts there to see the starting pitcher.The scouts left after 1 inning when he walked 2 batters and gave up 3 hits. From then on,he allowed nothing and finished the game 24 up 24 down. I always wondered if those scouts stayed just a little longer what wouldve ever happened for that guy because i could never find anything for him past that season

What a rush to even see the last part on TV - can't imagine being there in person. You could see on TV the crowd was just coming apart they were having so much fun.<br /><br />Good for you for being able to see it in person!<br /><br /><br />J
