E121 Lou Devormer and Charles O'Leary

Posted By: Ken McMillan
Afternoon to all,

I have been looking for both these cards for several years and have never seen either one of them. Does anyone happen to know how rare either of these cards are in the series of 120? I wouls imagine they are a little tougher being from the Yankees team. I have seen multiple Ruths from the 120 series and other players. Thoughts?

Ken

Posted By: Rhett Yeakley
I have the DeVormer E121 Series 120, I have seen others of him, so I don't think he is any rarer than anyone else in the set. May just be a matter of timing, sometimes when I am convinced something is really tough all of the sudden multiples come out of the woodwork, seemingly all at once.
-Rhett

I have seen and own many Elmer Miller cards from the same series, but never seen that one in my quest to complete a series of 120 Yankees. You may be right on the timing thing. I looked close at the card you pictured and the player looks like the player on the Tom Rogers card from the same team. Thanks for sharing.

Ken

Posted By: Anonymous
I don't think I've seen an O'Leary, but here is my De Vormer thanks to a transaction with David Festberg about thirteen or fourteen years ago:

I don't believe two qualifies as coming out of the wordwork. As for looking like Rogers, maybe De Vormer has some resemblance, but one thing I know for sure is he is not Emil Meusel which one publisher claimed. I don't have a Rogers card, but I do have two Millers.

Same size but just different dates scanned. These are also courtesy of the same Festberg deal. All cards are from the set of 120.

Posted By: Dave
I own a DeVormer (pictured) below and have a lot of the E121 Yanks... it's one of the Yankees series I am trying to put together. ***Edited to add the Rogers Card for everyone to compare...

I've never seen the O'Leary either so if someone has a scan I'd love to see it. I have about 15 of the Yanks from the E121 set. Roth is another tough one to find.

Posted By: Ken McMillan
Dave,

Pretty cool cards for comparison. I have the Rogers card ans saw the scans of the DeVormer card. At a glance, the cards looked the same except for the name. When you see them side by side, you can see the difference. Don't think photographers were very diverse in their thinking of pictures back in those days. Also, different card companies used the same pics year after year. Thanks for sharing the scans

Posted By: Anonymous
Yeah, I'd be willing to bet that the Rogers and DeVormer pics were taken on the same day and it was one right after the other based on where they are standing.

Someone has to have that O'Leary!
