T207 Guys - Care to explain this closed auction

Posted By: Ron Lambert
Dear All

I'm not very far along with my set and was monitoring this auction for 7 raw cards. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140189518170&ru=http%3 A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll% 3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37%26satitle%3D140189518 170%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1

Now, they were all Recruit backs and I didn't think there were any super hard cards in the lot but it went for $450 for cards described as G to VG.

Thoughts??

Ron

Posted By: Ron Lambert
Are Purdue and Hageman considered that tough? I know in researching threads on this board, I don't recall those being listed on anyone's "tough" list but perhaps I missed it.

Posted By: S Gross
The two mentioned above jumped out at me also .............

........ but it looks more like the classic situation of 2 guys going after a auction:

The Winner puts in a bid that "no one will never, ever, even consider topping."

The Runner-up puts in a snipe that "no one will never, ever, even consider topping."

Posted By: robert a
The T207 guys can maybe comment more if they're around, but I've found many Boston players (both nat. and amer.) to be hard to find. I have 170+ T207 with no Perdue and Hageman or Engle, Sweeney, Donnelly, Hooper, Lewis of course, Miller, Tyler, not to mention Cicotte, Speaker and Wood.

I've seen em around and I'm not saying they're impossible or anything, but tough for recruits.

Scott's probably right too about a mini battle going on.

Rob

Perdue is less common than the others, but not by much.

This thread explains the Hageman phenomenon - http://www.network54.com/Forum/153652/message/1182055802/T207+Napoleons.

Bill

Posted By: paulstratton
I have noticed a lot of crazy prices for "Boston" T207's lately as well. They do make for some of the more colorful cards in an otherwise drab set and it would be a cool team set to put together, so I can see the attraction. Stiff price on that lot though...super stiff.

Posted By: Bob
I bet the winning bidder couldn't believe that last snipe that drove the cards up from the mid 200's to the mid 400's. None of the cards are that tough except Hageman where a collector is trying to collect all the Hageman cards in existence so it drives his ebay price way up.
The old ebay adage, it takes two to tango or to drive a price beyond belief, seems to still be true...
